Gbajabiamila: Too much blood has been spilled in our country

Events in my home state Lagos, last night and up until this afternoon, have left my heart heavy and my spirit disturbed.

After sixty years, our democracy should have grown beyond the point where conflicting visions of nationhood result in violence on the streets and blood on the ground.

It is unavoidably and painfully clear that there were a number of casualties as a result of gunfire at the Lekki Toll Gate.

Therefore, there needs to be a quick and thorough investigation to determine the facts of what happened last night in Lagos. Our nation urgently needs and the Nigerian people deserve an accounting of the acts that led to the events of last night.

I urge for calm whilst we get a truer picture of events.

In Lagos and everywhere else, too much blood has already been spilled in our country, let there be no more.

May God bless and keep you all. And may God bless and keep our Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Femi Gbajabiamila

Lekki shootings: Life doesn’t matter to a clueless leader -Fayose

My heart is heavy. Like every other concerned Nigerians, I'm worried. I'm sad that soldiers were sent to shoot at our youths, who were only expressing their anger against the system. I sympathize with families of those who lost their lives and pray that God will heal the injured

However, the sad reality we must face now is that the current situation in our nation is as result of allowing a clearly incompetent man to ascend to the highest office in the land. I saw all these coming and I warned Nigerians. You can’t wear a white robe on a pig.

Life does not matter to a clueless leader whose only fulfilment is that he is called Mr President. He cares about no one except himself. That's why up till now, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has not said a word. Sad!

These are soldiers behaving so responsibly.

If the soldiers that went to Lekki last night had behaved like these ones, our nation would have been saved all these loss of lives and properties.

Sad!

Nigerian soldiers could not combat Boko Haram, Armed Bandits, Kidnappers and killer herdsmen but can kill innocent young protesters.

This is simply a function of bad leadership in our country. Shame on them and their commanders.

Ayodele Fayose

#EndSARS: We’re ‘back to Abacha’ days, Soyinka says
"It is absolutely essential to let this government know that the Army has now replaced SARS in the demonic album of the protesters."

Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has condemned the shooting of peaceful protesters in Lekki, Lagos, on Tuesday evening, saying the army has replaced the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

In a statement on Wednesday, Mr Soyinka accused the federal government of acting in an “authoritarian manner” by deploying armed soldiers on the protesters.

“It is absolutely essential to let this government know that the Army has now replaced SARS in the demonic album of the protesters,” said Mr Soyinka.

“My enquiry so far indicates that the Lagos governor did not invite in the Army, did not complain of a ‘breakdown in law and order’. Nevertheless, the Centre has chosen to act in an authoritarian manner and has inflicted a near incurable wound on the community psyche.

“Need I add that, on arrival in Abeokuta, my home town, I again had to negotiate a roadblock? That went smoothly enough. I expected it, and have no doubt that more are being erected as this is being written.

It is pathetic and unimaginative to claim, as some have done, that the continued protest is hurting the nation’s economy etc. etc.

“COVID-19 has battered the Nigerian economy – such as it is – for over eight months. Of course, it is not easy to bring down COVID under a hail of bullets – human lives are easier target, and there are even trophies to flaunt as evidence of victory – such as the blood-soaked Nigerian flag that one of the victims was waving at the time of his murder.”

Soldiers opened fire on peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday evening, killing several youth. At least, 25 people sustained gun shot wounds, according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The governor, however, said no fatality was recorded in the shooting.

In his statement, Mr Soyinka said as he resumed his trip to Abeokuta at 6 a.m. today, he negotiated nearly 15 roadblocks “all distinguished by an implacable state of rage.”

“It was in stark contrast to the inclusivity of the protesting ‘family of common cause’ of earlier days,” he said.

“All inherent beauty of instant bonding and solidarity evaporated. At the block just before the Lagos Secretariat, the protesters proved the most recalcitrant. In the end, they exacted from me just the one offering to the rites of passage – I could sense it coming — I had to come down from the car and addressed them. I did.

“Little did they know what was churning in my mind: This is not real. This is Back to Abacha – in grotesque replay.'”

The Nobel laureate called on the affected governors across the country to immediately demand the withdrawal of deployed soldiers.

“Convoke Town Hall meetings as a matter of urgency. 24-hr Curfews are not the solution. Take over the security of your people with whatever resources you can rummage. Substitute community self-policing based on Local Councils, to curb hooligan infiltration and extortionist and destructive opportunism.

“We commiserate with the bereaved and urge state governments to compensate material losses, wherever. To commence any process of healing at all – dare one assume that this is the ultimate destination of desire? — the Army must apologize, not merely to the nation but to the global community – the facts are indisputable – you, the military, opened fire on unarmed civilians.

“There has to be structured restitution and assurance that such aberrations will not again be recorded.

Then both governance and its security arms can commence a meaningful, lamentably overdue dialogue with society. Do not attempt to dictate — Dialogue.”

They've all been speaking out before now.

But bad eggs like you and your ilks on the social media supporting Buhari and his atrocities refused listening the voices of wisdom from Obasanjo and Soyinka, calling them names like “Divider-in-Chief”.

Medicine after death.

Meanwhile,

We demand for a reset of the country. It was built on faulty foundation which can no longer hold in today's reality.

* Reset the country
* Reform the country
* Reconstruct the country
* Rebirth the country
* Bring totally new constitution
* New economic and political policies reflecting the needs of the day.
* Interest of the masses shall be paramount, not interest of few opportunists.
* Create massive employment and engage unemployed youths
* Enabled business opportunities for all including loan.
* Invoke a provocative massive infrastructural development across the country...not concentrating in the north.
* Proper social welfare for all especially the physically challenged and unemployed.

Baba has said it all, dialogue is key. Its the panacea in a situation like this. Strong head doesn't rule a nation.

How Nigerians forget things in a hurty. We shouldn't expect anything strange from someone who once said their monkey and baboon would be soaked in blood...no responsible leader utters such a word. Tinubu is only reaping the the reward of the hyenas he suddenly bathed and wore human clothe all in the name of rebranding a dictator and calling him a reformed democrat at Chatham House, UK ahead of 2015 elections because of his personal ambition, forgetting that a pig, no matter how clean it's bathed would always go back to the mud to wallow. We can see he's truly a reformed democrat now. Like every other Nigerian who committed and admitted their error, I apologise for voting buhari. Please forgive me.

Like we survived the worse moments of the military in this country, this moment too shall pass. God bless Nigeria.

In as much as the deeds done can't be undone. Something good can still come out of our struggles for a better Nigeria you and I will one day be proud to call ours.
We aren't asking for much but an enabling environment where business initiative and ideas and innovation will thrive. Where the pay for work done will be just and justified. Where hardworking is repaid and appreciated. Where exploitative tendencies will kicked out. And inflation a thing of the past. Where accountability becomes order of the day. Where politicians will cease to be celebrities.

Who planted the (TNT) bomb, if not Obj himself.
The monetization/ privatization of Nigerian assets by his regime shifted our economy from 50% socialism to 100 % capitalism.
The objectives of capitalism has been achieved 100% where 1% own the economy as against the 99% interest.
The only disadvantage of capitalism is that the rich will keep geting rich, while the poor will continue getting poorer, hence the high rate of poverty in Nigeria.
The #EndSars should take back our National Ota Farm from the evil spirit aka Obj for National interest.
All privatized National assets should be returned back.
Let end national corruption.

When the protest was still in a cruise state, it was all about God bless this generation! . Now the blessed generation blood is cursing the Leaders of the land.

We laughed and joked and thought it was all for fun when Prophet Odumeje said 2020 will be a year of lesasefaray.

Beware southerners. This is the time to know and understand the true identity of those who cause tribalism on here, they are payed agents, they are neither from east or west. They have more than twenty accounts, they would create tribal topics and make tribal comments with another accounts to cause chaos between southerners. Though, they have no conscience but you can try to educate them or better ignore them. They are easy to identify, use your head brothers. Beware.
