Programmers I Need Some Advice. by CapedBaldy: 8:35am On Oct 26, 2020
I'm 20 years old and earlier this year I started teaching myself HTML and CSS. I understand how it works and I was really into it but during the lockdown I lost interest and stopped practicing. For some time now, I've been trying to get back into it. I've finished the books I use in learning but I've just lost all my enthusiasm for web design.

Right now, I think I need to learn a real programming language. I'm thinking of learning python. I had an idea for an app I would like to make but I'm not sure whether to just dump web design or finish it before moving on to something else.

What do you think is the best course of action?

What would it cost U to finish teaching urself d web design U already started with?

You are not enthusiastic about HTML and CSS but you want to learn Python? grin

Try your hands on the python first and come give us feedback, we will be waiting.

What are you enthusiastic about, aside this computer coding thing?

I'm still learning it. I just find it really boring now.

Guy, find passion now that you are young. By the time you become older, responsibilities will come. People including your dear parents would feel it's high time you started doing something for yourself and others.

Find something to be passionate about even if you don't like the thing itself let what that thing will give you motivate you.

It doesn't necessarily have to be this computer thing. Just find a rewarding path (skill) and follow it to the end.

Nothing is ever easy at the start, it only get easier as you progress.

Programming is the only thing I've been passionate about but lately I've been losing interest in everything.

Nothing stops you from doing both simultaneously.

If you're lacking interest in HTML and CSS, give it a rest and try other things. In time you can come back to it, they're not even hard to learn.

Also I hope your app idea isn't a mobile app, it would make more sense to learn java/kotlin instead, or go the hybrid route with JavaScript/Dart

Finally as a warning(more like a heads-up), real programming languages are no joke. It would take you weeks to do basic things, and months before you can code your app.

Good luck!

You probably burnt yourself out. Take a break and do other things (like more anime grin) or maybe deep down web dev isn’t your thing... I also learnt html and css then I got bored, moved on the python (data science) and all’s good now.

Reading success stories on reddit helps keep my drive running when I hit a block so you could try that if the issue is motivation/ inspiration

Lol, learning HTML and CSS is the most important thing for any newbie developer. Even if you learn python, you'll still need HTML and CSS at some point. So you obviously can't do without it, one step at a time.

Mehn you need to learn to google things. As a developer, it will be the most rewarding skill in your stack

Anyway, HTML doesn't need a framework, its a markup language for structuring web pages.
You don't download it. You just write it.

Follow MDN's(Mozilla developer network) web developer series or even freecodecamp to get started.

programming is boring...not just boring...boring and confusing at times....you need to develop an interest in it and practice all the time..that's when you start enjoying it....a programmer is willing to leave his wife than quit programming...lol...you just have to give it time and patience... or find something else you are interested in

O.p are u sure u are really passionate about programming smiley, anyway sha HTMl and CSS are not programming language , go hard with real programming language like python(since its beginner friendly and can perform well in any task on a normal ground).

Decide on the path of programming(data analysis, game programming, software dev, etc) u wanna follow and set short term goals for yourself in it, take it one step at a time.

The reason u probably lost interest is maybe there was no goal in front of you on html and css, thereby losing interest(dont bother going into web again atleast for now).

Good luck!!!
