Hello, Doctors on Nairaland, I have a friend who was having stomach ache, around March. She was taken to hospital for treatment but no changes. She was however, referred to general hospital, but because of COVID19 she was taken to a private hospital. She was operated for the first time and when the first wound was about to heal up no changes still she was still having stomach ache and was so thin. She was then operated the second time, and she was oka. The problem now is that her wounds from the second operation is not healing up and she did not have diabetes. Please what can we do because is like the doctors are confused self since July the wound is still bring out pus and it smelling, please help I don't want her to die.... Please @Lalasticala, Mynd44, Dominique your guys help is needed here. |

How can the Drs be confused on something that's as clear as daylight? She has got infection arising from the operation. It's either they drain the abscess or go in there again and drain it if antibiotics cannot take care of it. Has the person been sent for a scan? I am suspecting the Drs in order not to look bad are refusing to tell you people what it is and a possible need for further operation or that further aggressive treatment maybe needed using quite expensive antibiotics. It's always the case in private hospitals, not wanting to tell the patient the whole truth,in d mistaken belief saying so may make the drs look incompetent and spoil the image of the hospital. Operative wound infections are not uncommon, even in the developed world. You must tackle it to the best of your ability or refer. They may not also want to refer to avoid being made to look bad in tertiary hospitals, where the workers forget that handling complicated cases or cases that may have proved too tough for the referring centre are the very reason tertiary hospitals are set up. If it becomes septic and she develops sepsis, sorry is her name because even advanced societies find it challenging treating sepsis. It has a high mortality rate. damilola4162:How can the Drs be confused on something that's as clear as daylight?
