Actually, no one is indispensable in the real sense. Even if you're a software developer, with few people in that industry, you can still be replaced. Whichever way you wanna look at it, there are still a few people that will do your job excellently well. Well, the major thing is to be self employed with multiple streams of income.
Hedonisco:
How many in Nigeria.?

Since they are supposedly smart, let them start private ventures (using their skills to solve problems in exchange for income) to sustain their cushy lifestyles.

I keep saying it that if you're a dispensable employee, keyword dispensable, then you've not started life. All the carrying shoulder forming important is nonsense. If they sack you, any other fool can replace you.. so what then is your real value? Nothing.

Use your brain.. Your kaku.. To arrange private venture, profit from it m, and meet up if e sure for you.

They are not full time staffs ...oil company will never ever sack 14,000 fulltime staffs also oil has no value again in international market

In less then 30 year from now oil will not have much value again. Europ is already using electric cars, must industries is convert into more cheaper and cleaner energy like solar and biogas.
very correct.

Nigeria is heading to a deeper shiit in few years from now because crude oil will become useless, and Northern Nigeria will demand to secede from Nigeria abandoning Niger Delta with their then useless crude oil after destroying their land.

The few workers that will exist in the existing oil firms will be paid peanut just like coal workers back then who use to be the biggest boys in town but today they are nowhere to be found.

The next oil company in the world will be tech guys, and their era will last longer because the world will stop at technology revolution.

But then, I see no danger for the oil company workers that will be laid off, unless they are perpetually stupid and destined to be foolish.

I say this because I don't see why someone who already have houses in various cities, have over 10 million savings and will get nothing less than 10million as compensation will go broke.

The smart ones will make use of their acquired high level skills to switch job, others will startup profitable business ventures because they have the capital, another set living in Nigeria will easily migrate to better countries with their wife and kids.

So whatever case it is, its still a win win for them.

The people in trouble are the average Nigerians, things will become worst with time because Nigerian government won't have enough money to spend again as crude oil value dies, and this will lead the government into increasing tax, levies, VAT, etc t sustain their extravagant lifestyle and to continue their massive looting.

Nigeria may experience a deadly revolution or civil war in future.

Relocate abroad in this pandemic? What will they be doing there? How many companies are even hiring now let alone hire a JJC.
Do you think #10M will last up to 6 months if you don’t have a job abroad?

As a Geophysicist with over 21yrs experience, I will advise all up coming youth should avoid earth sciences with major in oil and gas courses.

My set falls in the top range of oil and gas climax. The sharp drop has started. The era of oil and gas is gone.

For science students, courses related to computer Engineering, software Engineering, Robotics, Renewable energies, Biotechnology, Genetics, Aeronautics, Agriculture, Pure and Applied Physics, Electronics, Forensic studies, Chemical sciences should be your aspirations.

Best of luck!

the nation is in quagmire, in as much as the job loss won't be Nigeria alone, but nothing ever works for us here in naija.

And our leaders have no direction on how to manage and navigate our already battered economy.

My question is this, can't they cut salary and still retain these staff?

those in the high echelon of the coy won't agree to this, rather make lower cadre staff redundant.

God will punish those who brought us here in jesus name, amen

We understand that oil is gradually growing into extinction, we are beginning to see the sign, this isn't just the first one, oil price dropped so was it's worth, the big question here is, when oil is finally extincted what would Nigeria build their nest on? Must we wait until we see the rains before we start preparing?

Exxon Mobil is a multinational, the job lose will not be peculiar to their offices in Nigeria but global.

Technology is what Nigeria government needs to be investing heavily in. I recently heard Zoom now surpasses Exxonmobil.

The Nigerian government if visionary should put in place a system of process that make 80%of these Nigerian youths roaming the streets tech-oriented and driven. That way, the economy will blow up. Technology is the in-thing now. Oil is now becoming old-school.

Hope you know majority collect loans only for houses and businesses? Not for simple things like travels, cars, parties etc. Most times your payoff can liquidate the loan. And if it can't, you give up the security. Also note that most of these loans are cash backed.
