Doctor help oooo
I bought a dog 2months ago but I put to bed and didn't give it all the attention of training, now I notice that my dog can't stop biting playfully and I am getting upset with it.the other day my boy of four years was playing with the dog and he started biting and gave him a little mark.this is a dog I want as a family dog and I don't want to be scared to leave my kids for a minute.how do I go about it?
Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH: 5:38pm On Oct 02, 2020

I'm so sorry ma, this case its a very simple issue. What you'll do, is what we call "negative reinforcement", each time your dog bites anyone even if its playful, inflict pain (not excessive on your dog but slight beating with a cane or slight pinching), overtime your dog would learn to associate biting of your kids with pain, and because pain is undesirable to your dog, your dog would gradually stop the bad habit. I hope this helps!!!

Good morning sir, please don't ever try that, I used to do that too before our surgery lecturer warned us against it, that it "cooks" the wound especially if its in powdered form. What you should rather do is this;
1) Debride the wound by cleaning with mild soap and cotton wool, some people use hydrogen peroxide, but hydrogen peroxide is corrosive hence not advisable
2) Then spray the wound with oxytet spray or apply GV to the wound

I will inbox you my WhatsApp contact, for further assistance. I hope this helps

3) Finally administer penstrep or amoxicillin to your dog, NOT on the wound. Note, if you dog is in pain you can administer Diclofenac. Penstrep if it is Inj, should be administered by a trained professional.

Of course she can, but remember, it's not ordinary milk she should give, rather she should give specially formulated milk for pups. I hope this helps

Get an ascaricidal bath, like armitraz or cypermetrin and bath your dog with it. You can then supplement with Ivermectin in order to destroy the parasite from within. For prevention, ensure a clean and dry environment with regular vitamin supplements.

Myiasis (Mango fly infestion)

Introduction
A condition where flies lay eggs in a living animal or human's skin or cavities and the hatching eggs eat the surrounding flesh is called myiasis. This can be detected in eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin, alimentary tract, and urogenitals.

Causes
When some flies like mango fly, bow fly lay eggs on a living host or materials worn by the host
Species affected
All vertebrate animals including humans

Symptoms
1) Small reddish swellings
2) Bad odour from the affected area
3) Pus on the affected area
4) Weakness
5) You might even see the worm coming out

Diagnosis
The diagnosis of myiasis is made by the finding of fly egg in the tissue.

Treatment
Treatment is based on the manual removal of the egg, blocking the respiration of the eggs (some people use palm oil) and/or using egg antiparasitics chemicals. The eggs must be mechanically removed without breaking them. This needs clipping the hair around the area for better visibility and healing. The damaged area is then cleansed thoroughly. Removing dead tissues aids the healing process and antibiotics may be administered if necessary.

Prevention
To ensure prevention, environmental conditions should be clean and dry. No fecal or urine contamination of the hair coat is allowed. Any damaged skin should be treated carefully and weak animals kept indoors. Regular grooming and daily handling the dogs will reveal the myiasis quickly, and the treatment can be started without delay. For humans, ensure clothes spread outside are properly ironed before use

In that case, it will be better you go for a broad spectrum prophylaxis antibiotics like amoxicillin and please ensure you complete the dosage to avoid antibiotics resistance.

Since you aren't seeing other symptoms, then you have nothing to fear. BTW, have you dewormed or vaccinated your dog?

He has been vacinated but I have not dewormed.which drugs do you recommend?
I just hate how my compound is littered with poop before morning.

I usually recommend wormoff® or any albendazole based dewormer. For the pooing all over the compound, I'll suggest you review and change the type of food you give your dog, let's see if there would be improvement.
