Hello moms, pls I need advice and possibly real life experiences of anyone that have been through this. My DS will be 2years in 2weeks time. I didn’t worry, until recently that I began looking at schools for his enrollment come January.
1. He used to have about 10words in his vocabulary as at 14month old, and would readily repeat whatever u ask him to say. He would also turn around at the mention of his name. But he suddenly stopped saying actual words and resorts to occasional blah blah blabbing, wouldn’t talk no matter how much I prompt him. Doesn’t respond to his name either (noticed this after I came home with DD from the hospital after delivery, he also began sucking his tongue at this point). His hearing is perfect, that am sure. I believed it is cos of our isolated environment and introverted nature and he’ll pick up once he starts school and mixes up with kids his age. However, school admins of almost all the school I’ve been to say it’s very unusual for a kid his age to not communicate at all. Have anyone experienced this? Should I be very worried? Should he resume school immediately? Plus he has delayed teething. Still at 5teeth currently, has anyone experienced this level of delayed teething? His sucking of tongue habit is getting worse the more caution and spank his lip, will he stop this u think?

Am up this late with worry and browsing. What am seeing is not so encouraging. I feel like I let this happen. I shouldn’t have kept him isolated for this long. Maybe he should have started school since he began walking. Am so confused. At the same time trying to make sure am not in denial.

Is that not the beginning of an autistic behaviour?
Instead of increasing in his vocabulary he is not even responding again, he is even regressing.
The most stupid advice you will receive here is to waite and observe. More regression is to decrease chances of recovery. Please do your own research
We would have adviced a series of hyperbaric oxygen threament now that the problem is just starting. No child with an ASD should be denied HBOT as several autism kids have a blood flow and oxygen delivery deficit in the brain.

We are HBOT PROVIDERS.

I think you should let him start school immediately or be in an environment where he can play with other kids that can speak very well.

Also, make sure you communicate with him as if you want him to respond. Even if he didn't respond, just keep doing it. I believe you will start seeing good changes soon by God's grace.

Amen and amen. Thank you. I already finalized and his off to school from tomorrow. It’s a first step while I consider further interventions if need be. I definitely speak to him. When I ask tell him “can u say good morning, can u say mommy, etc. He just smiles, and averts his head. Same thing he does each time I prompt him.

Good afternoon Mamas in the house!
Please Mamas, we had our 6weeks immunization today, and amongst other things she was injected and given to orally, I saw ROTA 1 on the paper and it wasn’t administered to her.
While we were about leaving, one of the nurses walked up to me in secret and said she gives the ROTA stuff but it’s 9,000 Naira. She was speaking in hiding and said it’s also given to children At 6weeks but because it’s expensive, the government doesn’t add that to the free immunization.

My question is, if this ROTA is important, can’t it be announced in general that it is but it isn’t free? Why must it be done in secret?
What is the importance of it and is that the price in all hospitals? Please your inputs will be appreciated
Ps: we reside in Abuja

in addition, ROTA was introduced to curb infections and diseases from feeding bottles, so if you are doing exclusive , chances are you dont really need ROTA for your baby

Please do not allow anyone to cause you to panic because they want to sell their market. That is wickedness

The regression is concerning, however I think your son is still too young for you to even get an accurate diagnosis if you attempt. My son was a very slow talker (without regression though) and these helped me:

1. Talk to him: if he is the only child you have, chances are you don't really talk to him but you talk around him. Use your words, describe what you're doing when feeding/ playing (Mummy is bringing your water, see? that's your cup, say water... stuff like that) give him room to respond (he may not) but don't give up
2. Socialize: if there are kids his age (or older) he can play with please encourage him to play with them, he may pick stuff from them

I suggest you try this for 6 months and see if you have any progress. Most therapists won't diagnose before age 3 anyway, a lot of slow talkers pick up btw 2.5 and 3

Also:
1. Is he good with "academic" speech (counting, colours, alphabets etc) or he has zero words?
2. Does he play well with others or is he withdrawn?
3. Is he responding well to potty training?

I conceived when my son was 10 months old. It was my wish to continue breastfeeding him till he was 16 months old, unfortunately, I couldn't. I stopped breastfeeding him a day to his birthday because I was getting tired.

My opinion, if you have the strength to continue breastfeeding him, please do. If you can't, put a stop to it.

How do you know he is slimming down? Did you check his weight?

What does he feed on currently? At 5months plus, you can introduce pap, cereal and co.

How old is your baby?

We don't like to hear the truth but honestly, there is no magic to reducing weight. The only thing that works is being in a calorie deficit, you can take supplements but those only help to rev up your metabolism.

Eat right and exercise. You can even lose weight without exercising sef. Take a lot of vegetables ( carrots, cucumbers, garden eggs, celery etc), you can also do like 1hour walk everyday.

Eat your calories, don't drink them.

Dear mama, it's a long read but I will encourage u to read.....

Wen my son was a year, he had more than 10words, he could call our neighbors names, few objects around d house, he calls tea for breast meaning he could demand wen he want to suck! Joins us in morning devotion by clapping, says take even wen he's d one collecting stuff from u, says and waves bye. By his first birthday he wasn't walking yet but had words and repeats after us, he took his first steps at 14months and lost all d words same month! Like he practically left talking for walking, I observed for a while yet no improvement, I was dead worried!! I started changing his creche like I was changing clothes, he doesn't even respond to his name let alone give me attention, he was very active and does things his own way and not like his peers. I took him to yet another creche last year Sept, he was 20months then the caregiver told me it's not normal dat I should take him to hospital, he probably have a tied tongue or whatever, then d race began! I ran from pillar to post. He started from ENT (ear, nose and throat) I always take him for d appointments by evening which is after I close from work, I will pick him from creche and go for d app. D distants are like traveling from south to West and head to North. One day we were going for our ENT app wen we got hit by a bike, we were opposite d clinic and wanted to cross wen it happened! My baby was badly hit, he had bruises all over his head and was bleeding, I laid in d middle of d road crying bitterly. Ppl gathered around us and were saying "there's a clinic opposite, let's take dem there" they took us to d clinic we were actually going but d doctor rejected us saying he can't handle and refered us elsewhere (he didn't even give my baby first aid) we got to another hospital and we were well attended to. My baby's hair was scrapped, bleeding was cleaned and all. We were admitted and asked to do skull x-ray d next day!!!!

Luckily d hospital was big and had peadatrics section, I laid my concern to them and was assured that nothing is wrong with my child. I said no way, he's not hearing (ENT doc made me believe dat) but I was assured he's hearing but not answering. It was dat hospital dat "restored my mental health" (alot of others made me believe he's autistic and I've spent a lot of money as well, infact I was spending ahead of salary) I was told what to do and drugs to buy and also to exercise lots of patience and show him maximum love!!

Let me not bore u....
Did I regret my impatience? Sort of
Did he get better? Absolutely

He's 2yrs and 10mons and doing exceptionally well! He can count, identify and arrange from 1-30 same with alphabets, sing few ryhmes, make simple requests, tells his baby sorry and so on. It might not be new for his age but it means a lot to me...........wait it out, don't loose sleep. Enrol him in school and be prayerful! My PM is open for more talks. All d best ma
