The original name is Obigbo, the term Oyigbo was coined by Alfred Diette Spiff an Ijaw man after Gowon created Rivers state to dilute the Igbo identity of the area. He also changed Umumasi to Rumumasi and other areas were deliberately misspelt.
Even his name Wike is pronounced as Nwike meaning Nwa Ike but there is a feeling of mainstream Igbo dominance leading to all these coinages by some Ikwerre people to have a separate identity
