The International Criminal Court (ICC) says it has opened a preliminary inquiry into the demonstrations against harassment and brutality by the police.

According to BBC, the ICC said it had received information on alleged crimes during the protests, which were organised under the #EndSARS campaign.

In October, many Nigerians took to the streets to call for an end to police brutality.

In response to the protests, Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), announced the dissolution of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) — a unit that had been accused of extrajudicial killings.

The ICC said the inquiry will begin with “whether the legal criteria for opening an investigation under the Rome Statute are met”.

The development is coming after a number of civil society organisations (CSO) threatened to report some heads of security agencies to the ICC over the conduct of their personnel during the demonstrations, popularly called #EndSARS protests.

However, Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff, has since dismissed the threats to report him and some heads of security agencies to the ICC and other international authorities.

“They have continually threatened to report the NA to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and also threatened various forms of sanctions against personnel and their families,” Buratai had said.

“Criminal elements are threatening us with travel ban but we are not worried because we must remain in this country to make it better.”

If after the probe and The tyrant Buhari, mentally unstable Sanwo-olu, thief Tinubu, wicked Wike and coward Buratai are not prosecuted and jailed then the international community have failed humanity.

We want to know who ordered soldiers to go shoot at protesters unarmed protesters in front of Lekki toll gate.

We want the identities of such person and the soldiers deployed to be punished transparently and publicly to avoid recurrence.

If this is true, then its surely a welcome development...

I dont know if i'm the only one who feels nothing good would come out of all these panels set up by these governors. But with ICC, its a different ball game!!

Here comes one of the few OBJECTIVE POST ON THIS THREAD

Even if it was just one (1) youth that was killed
It is a very BIG issue for some of us with brains and souls,
If it was 7 youths as it was reported by the genuine protesters at Lekki, it is still so sad,
and if it was 78 or 100 youths as it was circulated all over social media,
We deserve to know the whole truth as a nation.
So we can know how to table our matter to the international community.
We want to know what is true and what are lies.
We dont want to accept any lies from the Army and at the same time, We don't need some people (celebrities et al) fueling fake news on this heated country now.
We are not fighting against Nigeria,
We are fighting for Nigeria.
#IStandWithTheTruth
Some Nigerians are waiting for what is the truth.
#IStandWithAPeacefulProtest.
#AGoodCountryIsAllNigerianYouthsWant
Again,
We are not fighting against Nigeria,
We are fighting for Nigeria.

Conscience is an open wound. Only the truth can heal it.

The Good people of Nigeria deserve to know the WHOLE TRUTH of this Lekki issue now.
Heads must roll!

Up till now, many Good Nigerian citizens with an open mind don't know what to believe.........still!

Oxtertee:
Justice for lekki martyrs.
Oh yes. It is very important.
While also not forgetting Justice for Anambra 40

While we are investigating the Lekki incident,
ICC please kindly help us Anambra youths to quicken investigation into this heinous crime of over 40 bodies of able bodied men killed, burnt and fed to the fishes!!
It has been swept under the carpet for some years now.

Every life matters.

SeriouslySense:
That's so horrible.
More than horrible....seriously!
Inferno001:
...It still shocks me people are quiet about this particular crime against humanity...akwuzu sars should be investigated from 2013 till 2020...past and present governors who turned blind eyes to this wickedness and all those involved should also be investigated...
Exactly my point here.
mobi99:
gbam!! u just said it all... I pray make ICC should be transparent in this case
I really pray so too!
