Academic and social activities were paralysed at the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa on Tuesday, November 3, as students shut down the institition's gates to protest against the death of a student who was allegedly rejected by the school clinic after a motorcycle accident.

IgbereTV gathered that the deceased, an ND I Computer Engineering student identified as Malik Omoty, was rushed to the school clinic after he was hit by a commercial motorcyclist on his way to an exam

According to an eyewitness, Malik was rushed to the school clinic but was rejected. The students then requested for an ambulance to take him to a hospital in the community but were told there was no fuel in the vehicle.

"Immediately after he got hit by a bike man, he was rushed to the clinic opposite the school, where he was rejected. They requested for the institute's ambulance to rush the victim to the hospital but unfortunately it was said that the ambulance is short of fuel." a witness said.

The students were raising money for ambulance to take Malik to a hospital when he died in the clinic.

The development angered students who blocked the entrance gate of the institution and also sent lecturers and non-teaching staff packing from the school.

The protesting students also sent away the Dean of Students Affairs and rebuffed attempt by the Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Students Affairs, Hon Adeyemi Azeez to pacify them. They insisted the student won’t have died if the clinic was properly equipped.

President of The Students Union Government (SUG) Comrade Eniola Ogunleye vowed school activities will be postponed till further notice in honour of the deceased.

Protest will not bring back the dead. They should channel their protest to the appropriate authorities

At this point, we can only speculate...since we don't have his medical history.

1.Possible injuries include a head injury, fractures to any bones, or even internal bleed from ruptured major boood vessels.

2.School clinics can only render first aid, then refer to a higher hospital.

3.If the gent had a fracture...especially skull fracture....that's an injury that is best treated in a TEACHING HOSPITAL....or similar level hospital. Wiith a consultant orthopedic doctor...and even a consultant neurosurgeon on standby. Not at a school clinic.

Infact, if the guy had multiple fractures.....and I was the school clinic nurse on duty, I won't even touch the patient...not if I want to keep my licensse to practice. Refer, refer.

The fact that the guy was knocked down is enough to assume there would most likely be some major injury. In such a case...refer, refer to the nearest biig tertiary hospital...where investigations can be done

4.As for clinic not having fuel...see why ASUU and ASUP go on strike. See why some of us can't stand corruption.?

The road is very bad
However, I believe they could have taken him to a private hospital for first aid

Our medical institutions tire person....why can't they even stabilise him preparatory for transfer to a proper trauma institution.

All those involved should be sacked and tried for negligence.

Something almost similar to this happened back then in Unical. Students rioted and destroyed school properties. The school was shut down for good 6 months, and on resumption, every student paid 10k each, for damages.

Meanwhile, See the moment Erica and Kiddwaya fans held an all night prayer Vigil for Kiddrica ship, amidst breakup rumor.

Maybe the school clinic is just filled with quack nurses, so they might not be able to handle the situation hence the rejection. But instead of being sincere that they won't be able to treat the boy but they just acted nonchalant. They can only prescribe paracetamol and receive student medical reports from other clinics during registrations.
