Hi all,
I applied for study permit and i have received a mail requesting for mypassport but in theletter it states that my passport expiry date must cover my study period because permit expiry datewould be the same as my passport expiry date.
My questions;
1. Is this possible? shouldnt it be the expiry date on the program not my passport?
2. if so i need to plan to process my Nigerian passport renewal. I am looking to renew in the USA.

Nigeria has 3 embassies in the US; New York,DC and Atlanta. I want to know which one is currently processing the renewal faster (within 1 week please). PLEASE YOUR RESPONSE IS MUCH APPRECIATED, would it be too much to also ask for someone's contact at the embassy who could be of assistance.

Thank you
Answering because I had a similar experience.
If your passport is expiring soon then you may need to renew your passport so that you have enough valid timeframe that can contain the work permit (usually 3 years depending on your program).
If your passport expiry pre-dates the work permit, the government will only issue you a permit that is the same expiry date of your passport. You can still get the remainder of the work permit when you get a new passport, however you need to re-apply for it and pay an additional application fee.
During my own time, I just renewed my passport which had roughly one year expiry date at that time. Then I applied for work permit with my new passport and got a 3 years work permit.
I do not not have information about passport renewal in the US. I did my passport renewal at Ottawa.

Please can someone suggest how to go about drivers license? I didn't renew my Nigerian license before landing and getting the G1 looks like a long option.
Is it possible that my Nigerian license can be renewed without me being physically present?

Good day my people,
Pls I will be coming to canada before the end of the year. I will like to know if buying laptop here in Nigeria is more cheaper than buying it in canada?
Brand - Apple mac pro
Are computer gadgets cheaper in Canada than Nigeria?
Will appreciate your prompt response on this.
Thanks.

In Canada, they don’t go buy cheaper, they go by efficiency. Most of all these cheap electronic gadget in Nigeria are cheap cos they are made in China. If you are buying original apple product, I think it’s cheaper to buy it here in Canada.

I just got here in Ottawa less than a week ago and I must confess that I have wasted a chunk of my life in Nigeria. Life is actually very easy and not as hard as we see it in Lagos.

Although, I haven’t started job hunting but I believe I’d find something once I begin next week.

I worked in a Bank in Nigeria and thought I was enjoying until I came here.

Thank you Canada for opening your doors.

Congratulations Drwise abi K2wise.

Hello,

I just got my COPR on October 25 but it expires on January 16, 2021. I was also advised not to travel due to the travel restrictions.

Please has anyone who received COPR in October landed in Canada?

Thank you.

Are you still in Ottawa? Did you get to join the "Nigerians in Ottawa" telegram group?

Oga Ade! I dunno why you're stressing yourself. Someone already responded to your msg an hr ago in the sister thread and you still here with the same question.
Ok ooo.. No one has travelled. Pls stay with us in Nigeria.

See, I have people whose copr expired due to the lock down and their visa hasn't been extended. The bad part is they resigned even before the lock down and now they are stucked.

Why am I saying this, you still have an opportunity. Your question shouldn't be this. Your next question should be the airline so you can book your flight and japa!

I'm not sure if i can go into Canada due to the border restrictions with USA though. But i would call the Nigerian Embassy in Ottawa to see how they could be of assistance. I had no idea one can renew passport with more than 6month expiry date, i could have started this a long time ago.

Thanks for the info.

Personally, I don’t know anyone but someone told me people with COPR after March 18th have been landing without issues. I won’t risk it sha. Have you tried to call IRCC or CBSA? What are they saying?

I understand his fear. I don’t understand why Canadian Government can’t be clear about this border restriction issue. People are landing but website says otherwise, it’s very confusing.

yes, for a renewal biometric is not compulsory. When filling the renewal form online just choose no in the question "do you want to recapture biometric" and a new card would be printed and sent to your preferred centre for collection
