Good and excellent idea from Lagos state, if we make the blue collar jobs more professional, we would reduce unemployment drastically..

Please add sport stats to primary/secondary and university curriculum with pass grades aswell. If we factor it on 70% concentrated on local sports and 30% on international sports.

That way we can gradually develop our local sports by force through compulsory education. in less than 2 years the stadiums would become very active with millions of jobs in various attachments to sports, Nigerian leagues would go international because of the audience, the brain drain from other nations would seize.

E.g
Exam question 1: which of the Nigerian ballet dancers did a triple spin in the 30th minute of the just concluded Nigerian ballet cup of states.. (20 marks)..

You would indirectly be forced to watch Nigerian sports, which would bring about its growth and massive employment.

Baba sense full your head like oil..

I just wish we could have leaders that think outside the box like this

In my SS3 I visited my wicked teacher n he asked me to polish his shoes, I got to the living room n saw his two daughters relaxing, I told them their dad asked me to have sex with them, they insisted that he can't say such, so I shouted "sir both of them"? He said yes

Fantastic idea by Lagos state government.
People don't realize that being a butcher is a proper profession that is studied. It's only in naija you slaughter and cut beef into chucks and sell. Except you go to places like UTC stores (do they still exist), goodies, mostly foreign, shoprite, foreign own stores will you find a proper butcher giving different cuts which vary in price. Naija is the only place you buy beef by pricing chunks and not per kg.
This is a commendable idea that will sanitize the industry.

Very soon the price of meat would skyrocket. No be Nigeria again?

With the birth of this academy, every butchered cow would be taxed. And this in return would increase the price of meat to consumers.

With the way this country is going if things continue like this by 2023 food would be like gold. Cos the common man won't be able to afford it
we are supposed to have common man?
Our problem is our fault.
With all the emerging opportunities, people would get jobs and spend money into the economy but we tend to allow foreigners collect our money by importing every freaking thing.

This people are simply saying, since we no fit compete with the rest of of the world with any other thing, at least make we try meat.
Re: Lagos State Government To Establish Butchers’ Academy by Enyimbamercedes: 8:02am On Nov 13, 2020
Excellent initiative!

Not all these unhygienic abattoirs that stress the cattle before slaughtering them causing the meat to become tough.

Hope you also teach them the different cuts; not only tozo, kpomo, abodi, shaki... let’s get some T-bone steak, tenderloin, porterhouse sirloin.

Thank you

Remember Fela's song

I geti my money plan my plan finish
Start to de go for marketi
Start to de go for shopping
Before I reach market nko o
Government show don enter
my plan e don spoil o.

Nigeria is a country with vast opportunities, but government policies is what's killing the efforts of the average Nigerian that's exactly what fela was singing about.

You have a small shop you're using to manage yourself, government increases vat, government increases tarrif, fuel prices goes up, multiple taxing through various dubious channels, your landlord doesn't want to hear story, danfo drivers doesn't care they increase their prices also.

How much do you think you'll have to spend as a man?

The government are the ones frustrating the efforts of Nigerians. We aren't lazy it's our leaders who are heartless and wicked

Good..I really want this to come to pass as some people that are good at this are wasting away, in fact, I have a friend that's very good at this but no opportunity to exhibit his talent.

Nice move, another way to create jobs for the qualified youth. I've been saying that butchering is not only the job meant for those old men with dirty cloth. Now, people can go to slaughter house in their suite and work gear, as they do in advanced countries. Only if Nigerians don't mess up the structure because everything depends on discipline

You are the clueless one. When they talked about ranching many of us here attacked them for thinking about the idea. They don’t need to import anything when many cow farms are available here and they can properly process them also do you think Lagos doesn’t have farms scattered everywhere?

Olusanya’s idea is a very progressive idea. I hope it works.
Health wise, meat would be sourced from a much cleaner and healthy environment.
It will provide more jobs to newly trained and professional butchers, hygienists, technicians, research and lab scientists and most importantly veterinary doctors.

Contrary to what some posters assume, meat might be cheaper. Multiple taxations/levies currently experienced would be checked. Presently, you’d pay offloading the cattle, land levy, rope levy, union levy and others imposed by agberos.
The academy might trigger the establishment of ranches as private individuals, cooperate bodies might key into the project instead of depending on the Fulanis. Cattles can be imported from abroad: Argentina, Brazil, Netherlands etc and there’ll be more researches in cattle breeding etc.

There will be diversifications in the dairy industry. Varieties of cattle breed means businesses like milk, cheese, leather industries will spring up.

I’m with Olusanya and Lagos state govt on this and God bless whoever came up with this idea and I hope it works.

Guy this is a very good initiative its because you don't understand the business side of it. Hmm if you know how much I make selling cattle alone in a week. Most of my customers won't mind a proper hygenic butcher shop. Sometimes we are blinded by sentiments to see business when it hits us in the face. If you're in Lagos don't sleep on this, it's a 8 billion Naira business. I wish I was still in Lagos.

Expand the scope of information you consume via internet, books, TV etc across almost all fields of human endeavor and you will almost always understand every news you read in Nairaland or elsewhere.
For instance i would have been limited in comprehending this story, but a couple years back my typical browsing of internet/youtube across different topics made me stumble across Abattoir operation in the Western world. After watching the way they operate their slaughterhouses over there, i was shocked at how advanced and superior their method is, i felt ashamed fór Naija.
I even began dreaming that if i had the means i would establish a modern slaughterhouse here to bring that excellent service to Nigerians.
