The rootcause of these mostly is bad parentage.

I had course mates who I knew were in cult but I did not join them. I was invited to join because my girlfriend was snatched, I did not join.

I couldn't do it because I was brought up with the fear of God.

Bad parenting is the major reason people join cults.

good orientation at a young age would deter any child from the menace..
