Many people see NYSC as an opportunity to save money for the challenges ahead. I believe this isn't the best mindset to carry into NYSC.

I advise you to see NYSC as a great opportunity to learn, gather experience and make connections if you truly have a plan for your life.

You can 'work' yourself into a public school for your primary assignment (PPA), work for two or three days a week and use your free time to learn skills like graphic design, programming, data science, fashion designing, project management etc.

You also get to meet bright minds from other schools. They may be poor today but only God knows what tomorrow holds. Besides that, you get to share ideas that can open your mind to opportunities and trigger your innovation and creativity. So, NYSC is a great avenue for healthy and useful socialization.

Finally, the allawee is enough to live a reasonable life (at least for your one year service). You can offer to work for free in a private company. In the real sense it isn't free because you're gathering experience and building a portfolio. For example, you may offer to work in a private university in exchange for no monthly stipends. At least after your NYSC, you can boast in your CV that you have lecturing experience.

Finally, if you love yourself and have plans for your future, please avoid private secondary schools. Don't be enticed with their 5,000-10,000 monthly stipend.

Firstly, that 10k will not improve your welfare reasonably. Also, there's little or no useful experience to acquire in a private secondary school. Finally, they'll consume every calorie in your body and second of your time. You won't have time for any personal development.

I wish I had someone to tell me this during my service year. I hope this will help someone.

In conclusion.
Please don't see NYSC as a money-making scheme. The 400k per year can't take you anywhere. However, it can help you think worry less about hunger and focus on self-development for a year.
...and year is enough to learn whatever you want to learn.

I hope this helps someone.

Not really.

Knowledge is now liberalised, irrespective of where you are.

You can acquire these skills in the remotest enclave of the world. Thanks to tech tools - phone, computer and internet.

It's about the willingness.

The future is in everyone's hand.

Thanks for this piece of Advice GeoAfrikana

pls my own question is, actually I have an intention of joining the Force. NAF to be precise, so I'm working at influencing my service to Bauchi so I can serve at the NAF base there either teaching or any Dept I'm required to work

Do you think it'll help boost my CV in the application for the NAF recruitment??

It should boost your CV. If you work your way there and relate well with everyone. Ensure you get yourself in the good books of senior officers there; you will get good references. Serving with them will also expose you to their ways of doing thing that could prepare you before hand. Depending on your course of study, if you read a professional course and your area of study is needed your display of efficiency, effectiveness and readiness to learn may also favour.

The most important thing is that have set your goal. Work towards it, have faith and believe in God that it is possible except if he has a better option for you.

I almost got myself into private school palava before I decided to maintain my public school posting. Just two days of work and decided to go into fashion designing after 6months of service as that's d only preferable option at my place of service. My colleagues at private school get pay of 4000-5000k per month exhausting all their energy. At least, I can sew my wears and if someone gives me material I can confidently sew. That's one sure thing I got from my local place of nysc service.
I'm not too involved in ladies matter.
N.b: I served at Umulogho in Obowo Imo state. Just concluded batch c1.
Shout out to my Otoko, Umuariam, Umulogho, Amuzi etc Obowo at large

Bro Biko, where did u serve and PPA? Your state of service is a major factor in having savings. Come to East(Imo state in particular), where u receive no state alawee, no ppa stipend, no stipend from home, several calls from home then u would understand the difference in service.

You're wrong, if you have passion for teaching, you ll embrace private/public schools.

In my days, I taught in two schools apart from private teaching. Till date, these kids still have my contacts cos of the seeds sown in them
Can you expantiate on the type of seed you are talking about
I want to check something

You have gave a very excellent suggestions but don't totally condemn saving during NYSC. I hid my M.Sc with money save during NYSC despite have my project management certificate and excellent experience from the company I volunteered to work for free.

I was fortunate to serve in Osun state, the land of the Omoluabis and I enjoyed every bit of my stay there. 2019 Batch C-II. My PPA gave me accommodation, my house is next to the office. I can wear my shorts to open the office for the day, and go back to have my bath and breakfast. The grandma in my compound gave me food regularly, so I had no lack whatsoever.

I learnt printing and customizing, graphics designs and web design/development, so 65% of my allowee was going straight into my savings/investment account.

I'm fresh out of service and in need of a Web development tech company where I can intern or work for stipends just for transport. My location is Lagos.
Someone should please tell someone. Thank you wink

Because you were getting money from another source. You can't save a dime if the money is your only source.
