PHOTOS: How dilapidated hand rail in Lagos public school killed one student, injured six .......................................................................................................................................... Tragedy struck recently in Badagry, Lagos State, when seven students of Araromi Ilogbo Junior Secondary School, Oko-Afo, a public school in the area, got involved in the collapse of a hand rail attached to a building in the school, THE WITNESS exclusively reports. . THE WITNESS learnt one of the students has been confirmed dead while the other six are under intensive care at the Badagry General Hospital, Badagry town from the incident that happened on Monday, November 9, 2020. This newspaper gathered that the students were leaning on the hand rail of the two-storey building when the incident happened. We were also informed that the casualty would have been averted if the authorities had responded on time to pleas for them to intervene. The dead student identified as Rasaq was said to have been referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, in Ikeja due to the intensity of his injury, but the hospital demanded a down payment of a whopping N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira) before treatment would commence. According to a reliable source who spoke to THE WITNESS, the Lagos State commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, was contacted immediately the teaching hospital made the outrageous demand but she was not forthcoming. Sadly, the student gave up the ghost before help could come. He was buried on Friday, November 15, 2020. Most of the government schools in Ojo Local government are nothing to write home about, too much population, substandard classrooms and toilet. The teachers are less concerned, after all salary must land by month end. Lemme stop here, before they will say that I'm wailing. |

echibuogwu: Please,I understand that you could be a teacher, but don't you think that teachers in that school would have done something about that hand rail? or at least at hospital issue? |

chii8:first of all I’m not a teacher and secondly why do you think they did nothing, I’m sure they must have complained about it severally, if the govt was paying them well maybe they would have fixed it with their money or pay the hospital bill instantly, the govt is totally at fault here. |
