Because I have seen Fiji... And Fiji is just a small Island with the posh opportunities reserved just for "it's citizens" ... Like, everybody knows everybody in Fiji, so anyone who screams "Jobs!" In Fiji... I hold my peace, but I know better(statistically), having been with an organization aimed at community development in the Pacific regions.

Except you work in the university of Fiji or the UN, Fiji is no haven for occupational relocation or economic migration(only FNU or a UN based organization can put you on an expat salary), I just think of Moana anytime I remember Fiji... There is also acute poverty in that Island, but the people are naturally content people, so they love their Island life. Suva is also a very crammed up city, because it is the live wire of Fiji... bottom line; if you are not on an expat salary, don't go near Fiji, regardless of the job offer.

I know Nigeria is hard now, and relocating seems a likely solution, but I implore people to critically analyse some travel destinations before the actual venture. Check your hustle destinations first.

However Fiji is a great place to visit, the Scenery, Beaches, Skies, the air/atmosphere, and overall feel is almost like no place on earth... I would absolutely go there on vacation and spend money... But to go and live there indefinitely ... no way Brov.

For your info, apart from Vanuatu, New Caledonia and French Polynesia that require constant aid and are basically fisherman villages, almost all Pacific Nations have shared trade alliance and linked economies, so most of their currencies are seemingly at par -which is why even Papau New Guinea appears to have a strong currency on paper, but in reality the country itself is struggling. Unless you tell me you intend to Migrate to either Australia or New Zealand (which is not a bad Idea) my opinion about Fiji remains unchanged.

If you're opening a hotel or have a ton of money to invest, Fiji definitely works for you. But for regular people, Fiji just doesn't have the economy. Nigeria is honestly better. A guy selling tomatoes can do better for himself than the average Fijian. Most people there are trying to take advantage of what I believe to be a guaranteed visa to Australia or New Zealand. The rest are working in hotels, or living off the land. Their high gdp is misleading. It appears the tourism dollars (which they rely heavily on) go mostly to foreigners and corrupt politicians.

Fiji is a widely visited holiday destination. The country is well-known for being home to some of the happiest people on earth. However, for decades Fiji has been suffering from the issue of growing poverty and inequality. Here are five facts about poverty in Fiji.

1. Since the first military coup in 1987, poverty in Fiji has continued to increase. The coup resulted in political instability leading to a decline in economic performance and a growing issue of poverty.

2. In Fiji, 45% of the population lives below the national poverty line, more than 250,000 individuals. According to economic surveys over 50% of the population lives on less than FJD$ 25 a week and cannot meet their basic needs. The increase over time is apparent — in 1977, 15% of the population were living below the poverty rate, in 1991 this increased to 25.2% and in 2003 to about 34.4%. Professor Biman Prasad argues that the incidence of poverty is now more than 45% and approaching 50%.

3. Households with education below the secondary level are at greater risk of poverty. A significant percentage of individuals in Fiji do not attend secondary school due to a lack of income. According to Save the Children Fund Fiji of 1998, 65% of school dropouts are directly linked to poverty. The cost of transportation and school fees force many families to stop sending their kids to school. Additionally, many of the schools are in poor conditions in need of basic materials. Nonetheless, in 2014 the government announced universal free access to primary and secondary education for all children, hoping to lower the rate of school dropouts.

4. According to the latest estimates, more than 140,000 individuals live in over 200 informal settlements. More than 13,000 of these native land leases will expire between 1997 and 2028, meaning that if they are not renewed, at least five households are displaced for every expired lease.

5. The income gap between the rich and the poor is very wide and continues to increase. Fiji’s traditional tribal structure is still preserved meaning the land is controlled by tribal chiefs who acquire most of the economic benefit. To make matters worse, Fiji is in the midst of a trade deal that economists predict will increase the poverty rate and inequality gap. The Pacific Plan, together with the Pacific Island Countries Trade Agreement (PICTA) and the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER) trade agreements partnered and tied with a regional economic zone.

Despite the apparent rate of poverty in Fiji, many politicians and diplomats in Fiji deny the problem and downplay its importance.

Nothing anyone can say that will make me change my mind in anyway. I AM EXITING NIGERIA �� FOR GOOD. Nigeria is a rich country yes I know but 80% of its citizens are bleeding �!!! Benin �� is the 3rd poorest country. Nigeria is actually supplying Benin �� Republic electricity and lemme tell you that there’s always 24 hrs supply of constant electricity in Benin! All the citizens drinks treated water supplied by the government. I have lived in Cotonou and I know what I’m saying!

Anyone who has ever had the opportunity to live outside of Nigeria will know that all other countries are better than Nigeria. With just #300 in Benin �� I will eat veggie spaghetti with plenty soccie, fried egg with a very rich tick tea made with condensed milk. Everything they sell in Benin Republic are imported from France �� meaning it’s all original... the only thin they produce in Benin is cotton wool.

Not all of us dreaming and striving to leave Nigeria �� are after the money in Abroad! For a person like me I am after quality of like, SECURITY and Most importantly GOOD FOOD (not negotiable).

Nigeria is a country full of uncertainties! A rich fellow today can become very poor tomorrow. Selling of tomatoes by the side and get shot by sars officials or get kidnapped for ransom or rituals.

Listen! Absolutely nothing is holding me back in this country! No parents!! No spouse. Stop viewing my Fiji travel from the perspective of your own comfort! You never can tell what is warranting my Desperation.
