Africa’s Most Dangerous Offensive Weapon: Algeria Confirms Deployment of Iskander Hypersonic Ballistic Missiles

The Algerian Military has for the first time confirmed its deployment of Iskander hypersonic ballistic missiles with the release of footage of a firing during exercises. The missile is thought to have served in the country's armed forces for many years, although the prior lack of confirmation represents a broader trend in the Algerian military of not announcing new weapons purchases. The Iskander is widely considered the world’s most capable class of tactical ballistic missile and is only known to have been exported to Armenia and Algeria - with both North and South Korea fielding highly similar missiles which are thought to have benefitted from Russian technology transfers. The missile has a 500km range and is prized for extremely high precision and manoeuvrability , and its ability to adopt unusual trajectories and to travel at high speeds exceeding Mach 5 despite its relatively short range make it almost impossible to intercept.

The unveiling of the Iskander notably followed the outbreak of low level hostilities between the Moroccan Army and various insurgent groups, with footage broadcast on public television. The Iskander represents by the most modern and sophisticated class of ballistic missile in Africa or the Arab world, and is one of several high profile weapons systems acquired in recent years primarily from Russia. These have included S-400 long range surface to air missile systems, several hundred T-90 tanks, Patnsir-SM air defence combat vehicles, Improved Kilo Class attack submarines and Chinese CX-1 cruise missiles - among others. Algeria is also thought to have signed a contract for the acquisition of Su-57 next generation fighter jets from Russia, although as usual with Africa’s largest country the prolific weapons purchase will not be officially confirmed until delivery. Algeria’s arms buildup notably escalated after wholly unexpected NATO attacks on neighbouring Libya in 2011, which had neglected modernisation of its air force or air defences and paid a heavy price for doing so when this weakness was exploited. This led both Algeria and Egypt to invest heavily in such capabilities most likely in order to deter any similar potential Western attacks.

At that time, I think it was 3 AS135s they said they were ordering. Just wondering whether it is from the same order or something else.

So respectfully,
would be impressed if the Naval Dockyard Limited didn't already build 40m crafts(NNS Karaduwa) with a 50m craft currently in production
with the help of Dorman Long engineering.

ARESA 1700? how big is this craft if one may ask?
Naval Dockyard Limited is definitely building a bigger one

why not equip NDL to have a production line for the SDB's
the steel used for the SDB makes it a bit slower than its aluminum counterpart
so why not invest in aluminum welding methods for the SDB's
with the many competent private sector engineering companies available in Nigeria
why not open the Navy's procurement to public bid
The navy gives its requirement for the craft; speed, displacement, communication equipment, armament, insurance, repair and maintenance
and have companies bid to supply 10, 20, 30 crafts. This is how a defense industry is created, through competition.

we keep exporting jobs and importing poverty with these purchases.

If we've learnt anything from Ara, Ezugwu, SDB, its that Nigeria can make things.

You can imagine the level of exaggeration SSBN is putting out on his handle later some people will say we are jealous of his misleading talks.

He's coming SA and Nigeria and here's what he's saying.
1.Nigeria has 6 CH-3A and Two CH-3B which is wrong Nigeria will currently have a total of 6 CH-3 when the two incoming ones arrive.
2.Nigeria has 15 MI-35M whaatt? We never even get our twelve complete na 15 we con get.
3.Nigeria has Gazelle helicopters which is wrong we never had Gazelle helicopters.
4.Nigeria Has 10 Daimond ISR aircraft....Fat lie we have nothing less than two if I'm not mistaking.

He should stop his Exaggeration.

Tunisian army peace keeping missions: in addition the current mission in Mali with MINUSMA, the MoD dispatched an 850 strong quick reaction force and a military police company that will soon serve in an African nation.
The MoD will also participate in MINUSCA Providing three helicopters, 120 troops (pilots, technicians and others) and a team of SOFs.

.
1.For the record,we acquired about 5 CH3a drones,of which 1 crashed. This is way back 2013-15, together with some Israeli Aerostar drones. There is a picture online of the 4 remaining in hangar.
2. When, the army initiated the idea of an aviation corp, they used gazelle helicopters. I have no idea where they are now.
I don't know who you are talking about, (SSBN) but I think he miscalculated on the mi35. Jonathan Goodluck ordered quite a few,but we had issues and it was delayed or cancelled,he must have added that.

Modified.
You are correct we will have a total of 6 CH3 , 4,CH4, and 2 wing loong.

Looks like in a few years, Kenya will revert back to using Administration Police as the first line of defense on its borders (Alonng the Kenya/Somali border) like its the case on other borders with Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia...

This is what the Kenyan president said when he officially launched the construction/expansion of the Border Patrol Unit HQ and Training Campus in Kitui County.

“We understand that in a dynamic operating environment characterized by emerging and asymmetrical threats, investment in modern technology and cutting-edge training is instrumental for 21st Century law enforcement,” the President said.

The BPU HQ currently under various stages of construction will include a modern state of the art Hospital for medevac and from the pictures - what looks like a runway (or atleast a landing pad?)

1. Arriving
2. The hospital U/C
3. What looks like a runway U/C
4. Staff Housing
