The Army did not lie. The so-called peaceful protesters had stones and bottles with them as confirmed by this post below. Take note of the date, 19-10-2020, a day before the Lekki incident. Even the attention of the ringleaders of the protest were called to it.

No point denying that some of the people disguising as protesters were armed on that night, there are videos to corroborate this. In fact, the bullet wounds sustained by some people on that night, are consistent with pellets from a low calibre firearm, probably victims of friendly fire. This explains why most of them were discharged in days. Gunshot wounds from an AK47 which is the standard carry of the Nigerian Army, will be much more devastating at such close range.
