Those shouting that they want to kill lVM, how many IVM can you count in your area or on our roads? IVM can carve a niche of producing luxury cars and the rich will patronize him.

I dont think the material cost incurred can make IVM produce affordable cars.

Govt reducing import duties is a welcome development. It will boost our ports activities and more jobs would be created. Consumption of fuel will be increased and create more revenue to the Govt.

What about spare part market that has been dwindling due to low demand of spare parts? A new shift will come into the market.

Good development I must say.

Why not on importation of rice. Why on vehicles
omenka:
Na wa ooooo!!!

We complain everyday about how difficult it is doing business due to the burden of tax, duties and levies imposed by the government. Now they say they wanna slash levy and someone thinks IT IS TARGETED AT INNOSON.

Isn't this a normal economic incentive deployed by governments around the world to help boost commerce and stimulate the economy? Why do we always have to bring everything down to tribe and religion in this country?

How do you people's minds work exactly. Gosh! embarassed

It is TARGETED AT IGBOS please. I don't have the strength to engage in a nonsensical argument.

You guys should believe what you wanna believe and assume what you wanna assume. That is your right and your business.

Bye.

Foolish and regressive policy. Everyone knows that fuel price is responsible for high transportation costs and not import duties. If fuel price is slashed today, the effect will be immediate unlike the duty reduction whose effects is dubious.
your comment is the first logical and most sensible of all I have read here. Thanks for seeing beuond mere folks

If these same people are given 5 million for instance, to buy a freshly made Innoson or a tokumbo Toyota, they'd go for the Toyota, YET, the policy is aimed at an Igbo businessman.

It is just hopelessly tiring arguing with these guys.

Software acquisitions as capital expenditure??

So like dis, one politician will embezzle money and label it that he used it to purchase a (failed or low version of) software if a probe is carried out?

Nigeria, I hail thee.

You are noisy..

She is right and you are an ethnocentric Igbo bigot unable to see the big picture and only interested in what benefits Igbo individual rather than what is in the interest of millions of Nigerians in the biggest black nation on Earth.

Nigeria must take drastic steps to secure locally innovated and home-driven economic growth post covid socio-economic devastation because all other nations of the world will be too busy trying to spark their own economy to life to even be interested in helping us.

Put your bigotry aside for a second if you can. Innoson should respond and slash price to compete or get out of the way. Any truthful Nigerian businessman will tell you it is criminal for bulk head articulated lorries to continue charging in excess of 400k to transport goods from Lagos to even Minna simply because owners of these lorries paid huge duties to import them and accordingly need to recoup their capital outlay.

Crash the price and watch competition fashion a truly competitive transport and haulage sector that will help many businesses grow and thus aid the economic progress of Nigeria.

Abi. Igbos are simply irredeemable. I have always said no nation can make progress hosting enemies-within and saboteurs with persecution complex most Igbos are.

This is purely a logical economic decision any pragmatic Nigerian businessman, needing to transport goods across Nigeria, would understand, support and laud.

Haulage cost actually even does a huge disservice to food transport and, ultimately, food security across Nigeria.

This is because of the huge duties levied on the importation of commercial vehicles, lorries, vans and articulated heads that discourages many investing in this sector thereby leaving it uncompetitive and very costly for end users.

Trust Igbos to always make everything about themselves because of an overblown sense of their own participation and worth to the Nigerian economy.

Slashing import duty or not should have just little or no effects at all on innoson.. IVM autos have never been that affordable for the common masses and if govt still doesn't slash the taxes cars will continuously and endlessly be snuggled in from the ever porous borders..

Reduce the money for people to buy cars, let them buy at a cheaper prices, then later increase the fuel prices to #200,so that people will complain less , mind you Dangote Refineries would soon start production, there serving as a source to consume his fuel

Exactly. The immaculate and mechanically sound articulated head below is an examples of the type Nigeria need to aid her haulage sector.

At 15k euros, then add 35% duty and many miscellaneous charges, this is simply beyond the power of many but the Dangotes and BUAs of the world.

This move is long overdue and one I am sure would not have happened but for the economic devastation of covid-19.

In a sane country company like innoson would have been supported by the government to start producing military equipment and weapons

We might even start exporting

But Africa will always be Africa

Good decision by Federal government!!, how many average Nigerians have been able to purchase these locally assembled vehicles?their prices are too expensive and arbitrary.
The prices of locally assembled peugeot and volkswagen vehicles were very affordable in the 70s and 80s and that's why they were so successful.
The current exchange rate of the naira has also negatively affected the local Assembled vehicles because the cost SKD(semi knocked down) parts keep going up and it's also reflected in the final price of the vehicle.
Most of the low income Nigerians now depend on 3rd hand Nigerian used vehicles to meet their needs.
Most Countries where the locally assembled vehicles business is thriving is normally backed up by a very robust credit system that enables the citizens to purchase vehicles and pay on a long term basis.Nigeria has no credit system for vehicles currently and that's why the Locally assembled brands are struggling.

This is like telling Innosson to go to hell.

Innosson products are less affordable. But can we blame him ? I think NO.
The cost of producing raw materials in Nigeria is not cheap not only because of limited technological know-how but because we are solving problems upwards to the ground instead of the other way round.

What do I mean? If there are enough automotive spare parts production industries in Nigeria despite our abundance of iron family (lead and zinc) , then the problem of monopoly and inflation will be solved on it's own.

The government on her part will not continue to wait for Innosson to bring down their prices

The economy is suffering, innoson must improve to be be competitive. It has already built strong customer bAse it must work on self development to improve on that not relax on high taxation on imported cars.
