Your logic is actually not logical. Abacha was on ground fully and was part and parcel of Buhari and IBB's governments for 10 years before he took over as Head of State and perfected the looting machinery.

Nigeria had barely struck oil when the civil war came and Nigeria was actually broke at the end of that war. Only the surge in oil prices helped the country on its feet in 1973 when the Yom Kippur war broke out involving Israel and the middle east countries they defeated in the 1967 6-day war.

Gowon was in a foreign country when he was overthrown and later sentenced to death in absentia for Murtala's assassination. The man was homeless and had to rely on a student visa to get access to the United Kingdom to study for his Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees.

Britain sold Nigeria most of the arms and ammunition used in the civil war and they profited heavily from it. Why did they not arrest Gowon when he was living among them if indeed he carted off half the central bank?

If anyone took half the central bank, it was the UK. Afterall, the artefacts they looted from Benin in 1897 are still in British Museums.
