IPOB opts for restructuring, sends memorandum to NASS
ON DECEMBER 2, 20207:49 AMIN NEWS
Emeka Emekesiri in

By Dennis Agbo

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has disclosed that it sent a memorandum to the National Assembly, requesting for devolution of powers and a restructure of Nigeria into six autonomous regions.

The development was disclosed by the original founder of IPOB, Mr. Emeka Emekesiri in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Enugu.

Emekesiri said the decision was taken after the IPOB team made several delegations to the British government asking for assistance in restoration of an independent state of Biafra, but was turned down by the former colonial masters.

He said that what the British preferred instead was for devolution of powers into regions as was contained in Nigeria’s 1963 constitution, adding that Britain said it was still interested in Nigeria remaining as one country.

Emekesiri said that the idea of seeking for Britain’s nod in the re-actualization of Biafra was informed after IPOB sought the assistance of other world powers, which insisted that Britain must be consulted and its opinion established before they could wade into the Biafra matter.

According to Emekesiri “In 2018 we opened up discussion with the British government, we met them three times and the last time, they told us clearly that they want Nigeria to be one, they don’t want Nigeria to break up. Britain has maintained its stand, it said it wants Nigeria to remain as one country.

“So we asked them how do we solve the problem of incompatibility, people of the north east and west unable to leave harmoniously, killing themselves because of differences of ideology and lifestyle. Worldviews are different, how do we do it so that the clashes will stop?

“They asked us for our proposal and said that far as they were concerned they want Nigeria to be one. We were there as Biafrans Living in Nigeria and our Movement is Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria (MOBIN), we are Biafrans in Nigeria. We had made it clear in our suit versus Nigeria that we are Biafrans living in Nigeria. So we are Nigerians by citizenship, but we are Biafrans in indigenous identity.

“We are Biafrians because we were not annihilated during the war and that is clear to both British and Nigeria governments. If Nigeria had annihilated Biafrans the way Romans annihilated Cartage, there wouldn’t have been anybody to talk about Biafra again, but they couldn’t and so we are the remnants of Biafra and we establish our customary government of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra in Nigeria.

“So we approached the British government as Biafrans in Nigeria who surrounded their sovereignty to Nigeria and whose indigenous identity cannot be denied, we are who we are. The British said fine, what do you want? We came back to consult our elders and we drafted a memorandum to be submitted to the British parliament.

“We sat down with elders and said we can’t fight with Britain as world power but that we can as well copy the British nations of nation model that maintain their indigenous identities such as Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland. We went to the British archives and got the British government policy of 1969 and used it to draft a memorandum which we presented to Britain.

“In the memorandum, we accepted that Nigeria should remain one, but that the model as it is in Britain, let be also in Nigeria. The Britain is four nations in one, in Nigeria we want six in one and that is the South East, the South-South, the South West, the North Central, the North West and the North East, that the six geopolitical regions shall now become six nations in one Nigeria and every nation will govern itself in one Nigeria; control your resources, develop at your own pace and we pay an agreed percentage tax to the centre.

“That is the issue of devolution of power or regional government or restructuring that we are talking about now. The politicians call it restructuring but we the Biafra activists are calling it devolution of power to the regions. Ohanaeze Ndigbo raised this issue on June 28 2012 and sent it to the National Assembly, Nigeria government sat on it and refused to implement it and said it will never restructure.

“However, our meeting with the British government paid off and I was not surprised few months ago when I saw a notice from the Senate that it wanted to amend the Nigeria constitution and in the list, item two talked about restructuring and devolution of powers which is our prayer seven in our originating summon already in court. But without prejudice, we prepared our memorandum and filed it with the Senate.

moment from now when the hearing begins we shall go for the public hearing and defend our proposal. This is the first time in the history of Biafra struggle that the Biafra memorandum has been officially submitted to the Nigerian National Assembly.

“You know you can stay on the street and make noise on the street but at the end of the day, there has to be some documentation to sign and not on the street.

“You have to go to where it matters and right now, the memorandum for devolution of power submitted by the Biafra activists is right now before the senate. That is where we are now and we are waiting.”

Fake news alert devoid of a source link, the rate of fake news been peddled against IPOB online these days is unbearable, yet IPOB still keeps waxing stronger. It's Biafra or nothing. There is only 1 Ipob. It's same people. There are multiple approaches and solutions to this dillema. There is a political approach, there is a diplomatic approach, there is a cultural approach, there is a military approach.

Mazi leads the political front.
The one you see in this thread is DIPLOMATIC approach.

The political approach has discussed with world leaders. Their input is what has been shared here, they are not interested in a divided nigeria. We are not using the diplomatic.

I need to share something with you, first of all, Igbo is the best brain in this country. You can see how we are progressing on this Biafra issue with strategy and smartness.

Another thing I would like to share is this, Foreign trade partners (US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and so on..) make far more gains and earn billions of dollars monthy just from our population alone. Oil used to be their cash cow. Not any more. We are in online commerce, population is where market is. Nigeria has population and a consumer market, to add emphasis. We do not compete with foreign imports and services. We are an open market willingly participating in consumption of foreign goods. It would be stupid for these countries to divide our population. The cost of marketing to us as nigeria will be multiplied 3 times if we break into 3 and they remain our partners. Also, there is guarantee of trade now with one nigeria. With three different countries there are no guarantees, Biafrans are inventors, creators and producers, we will compete with products from abroad and compete with their ingenuity. We will become the China of Africa.

Oduduwa on their own have pride in their racial ancestry and civilization and will use smartness to outwit foreigners in their own game.

Arewa on other hand will default to religion and settle itself into organization of islamic nations and partner with arab nations. Arab nations are also consumer markets. So arewa will not be a serious competition for foreigners. However, given their past history with terrorism, starting with dan fodio, this is unlikely to be a good and reliable market.

So in all, a secured and guaranteed market of over 200 million population that is netting over 1billion dollars per month for foreigners will be displaced and end with far less security and guarantees, and definitely some foreign nations would themselves see their income deplete and impact their national budget.

Here is another angle to look at. How much do we spend as nigerians in tourism and migration to other nations? This is well over a billion dollar. We apply for medical tourism, for vacation tourism, for trade tourism, for academic tourism, for education tourism, for religious tourism, for migration. This is heavy loss to our destination countries if we divide.

Look at how much we spend in foreign schools. Thats 4yr college on average.

So when you add all the income earnings to foreigners, 200million nigerians is a cash cow for their national budget. We practically subsidize the national planning and social and welfare of citizens in most foreign countries. If we divide there is no other market that will replace their loss. They will wage war with us just to keep us together than to see us divide.

And I have not even mentioned the input of our migrants to the tax earnings in US, in UK, in Ireland, France, China, and so on.. Our migrants over there work menial jobs and support their quality of life to boost their own citizens from lower to mid income level. Because we do menial jobs their own citizens can choose to reject such employment and seek more decent grades and positions. When we think of our top achievers that migrated and earn big income, they add to tax base for the foreigners. Dont you see how Canada make it easy for us to migrate? In fact it works to their advantage if our homeland is not peaceful and people escape to find peace overseas. This is how America grew.

If Igboland was independent and Biafra is growing our brothers and sisters abroad will relocate home. Same for Yorubas.

So forget about oil. Thats old money. The new money and cash cow is population.

This is by far the more realistic way to go about the agitation and is sure to get supporters from the SW, ND, MB, and even parts of the core North. It is by far more likely that Biafra, Oodua, and other nation-states can be actualized within a restructured Nigeria, just like you have Wales, England, etc. in the UK. Kudos to IPOB For this, and I hope other southerners support this brilliant idea
