It was obviously a stupid decision for them to fight to keep him. No matter how good he is, the man is in the twilight of his career. That was their last chance to sell him for a large fee and invest in like 3 world class young players. Now he’s going to leave for free smh.

What usually happens in this case and what will have been happening since the summer is secret calls between both parties where City will carrot the man with huge a personal compensation package, something like converting most of the earlier planned transfer fee into his wages.

City gets their man, Messi gets a humongous pre retirement package and Barcelona gets zilch. Anyway he has given them what no other player has ever given any soccer club ever. So their compensation has been well earned. To make money off Messi after all that he has given them over the years is quite frankly greed personified.

a clause was involved in messi last contract dt said he can walk away to any club for "free" starting from a year b4 that contract n that was last year june....
