What kind of question is this? Even a lay man should know that you or your friend do not understand travel stuffs or you aren't truthful.
Tell your friend to find another airline like Qatar, Ethiopia, Ethihad etc You don't need any transit visa for any airline except some exclusive countries like America. Transit visa has categories which most liked by many is the A type that could allow you get into the city or out of the airport. This way many just abscond or run off in that country and not return. Many countries knows this and have put restrictions on issuance of such to especially Nigerians.
The other is that you don't need any visa to stay in the airport. You just wait in the airport for the next connecting flight to your final destination.
Why would he buy tickets without knowing this information. He can come back with most flights or raise money for him and buy another ticket.
Your friend isn't telling the truth or he's ignorance of travel processes or he wants to abscond in Hongkong.

Tell your friend to go to his cities immigration office and explain his condition and apply for visa extension. Then he can have enough time to buy another ticket back home. Covid 19 has caused a lot of havoc so they would understand and extend his visa.
Don't believe that transit visa thing ,he's definitely trying to get off the airport and run off not coming back. I am just guessing but from experience transit visa is not necessary for him to return home.

I always fly ET to China . no.issue of transit Visa..

Let the person fly Qatar airways , Doha don’t need transit visa. Talking from my own experience.

You normally don't need a visa for Hong Kong if you use the ferry.

Let him fly (or fast train) to shenzhen, board the ferry to Hong Kong, but he won't enter the town. There is direct route from the ferry entrance to the airport.

I last used this in 2015 so he has to find a way to confirm it still works.

Hi Guys, I don't know what's changed between 2017 and now but I'v flown that route China via Hong Kong to Nigeria on Ethiopian Airline before and didn't require a transit visa to hop on a plane at Hong Kong.

All airlines I’ve ever used to and fro China never connected in a country that demanded transit visas even when I had to enter the country and stay for a couple of days before connecting the next flight.

I don’t know why he chose to travel through Hong Kong when he could have left from Guangzhou, Beijing or Shanghai directly.

He should quickly book another flight with Qatar, Ethiopian, Emirates or Egypt Air. These I’m very sure do not require any form of Transit visas. Failure to do this before expiration of his stay, he should be ready to pay the fine per day for over stay or go to jail and still be deported. Plus his passport gets registered for overstaying, bad business for next visa application.

When he gets back home safely, he can then apply for a refund from the first airline he booked citing visa denial with evidence.

You don't need transit visa for UK. You will only be stocked at the airport for till your next flight.

you are a liar - no airline will book you and have you fly on their plane into Hong Kong when your passport does not have a transit visa for Hong Kong if it is required. Even if you are to switch flights to another carrier, the airline that took you from your originating country will still not process your boarding pass if you don’t have that transit visa

lots of countries that he can fly to without a transit visa,he can use Qatar Arline or Emirate these airlines are visa free but he will have to stay only inside the airport till his connecting flight arrive.

Emirate airline. Stop over in dubai. You don't transit visa as long as you stay in the airport till your next connecting flight.
