You kuku know me, i am looking at this already. And that una Tiles, i hate with passion and looking for affordable alternatives. I will even prefer Rug self but dusty naija discounted that option. In high End hotel in the "ABROAD", i no dey see all these elaborate POP or Tiles anywhere. EKO with our self imposed costly wahala.

I thought I am crazy or something is wrong with my thinking. Tiles every where it was driving me nut. I was considering hard wood but the pricing I saw here seems to make it out of reach. How can I justify spending about $10,000 (#4million) on the flooring of 100 sqm. At least that was what was posted here as the cost of hardwood flooring of 100 sqm few days ago. That is about #40,000 per sqm.

Hardwood flooring is NEVER cheap. Home or abroad. Since tiles are doing your head in, have you looked into the possibility of importing hardwood floors? In UK good quality hardwood floors starts from about £18 per square meter. That's about about N11,000 per square meter at current exchange rate. You should be able to land it in Nigeria under N15,000 per square meter UK to Nigeria shipping.

Now how was your flooring ( German floor) done? Was it done the Nigerian jagajaga way? You need a smooth polished off floor with good level to install hardwood floor. You can't install hardwood on Nigeria jagajaga floor without preparatory floor work like taking level and smoothening the floor in preparation to lay hardwood floor. This will add to the cost. If you didn't do German floor (DPC), and you are pinning to lay hardwood floor, sorry your challenge is compounded.

Don't forget, you also need an underlay as noise dampener before laying the hardwood. And you also need floor beadings and skirtings and specialist knowledge to lay the floor. All these add to cost. These probably reflect the N40,000 per square meter you were quoted.

As tiles are driving you nuts and hardwood floor is above your floor budget, what do you intend doing?

If your thing against tiles is a mental health issue and personal well being, you need to find the budget to achieve your wish. But if it's for aesthetics, you need to be realistic and practical.

Lagos is the epicenter of business in Nigeria but it is overcrowded already. To get a door to from Nnewi to Lagos is #5,000. To get a door from point A to B in Lagos is above #7,000. You see the economics. So whenever you are ready, let's do business. Distance will never stop us

Having said that, only Alaska is bigger than Nigeria

You are becoming a good marketer here bro. You will survive well in this country.
But I'm still trying to understand the bolded. Will the 5k take the door to the owner's house in Lagos or to the motor park where he will still pay another 7k to move it to his house?

I beg you in God's name to please sheath your swords and stop passing all these harsh and vituperative remarks on each other. The more you hurl abusive words to hurt each other, the more unhappy and hurt you become in return. You and only you have the right to choose and control how you want to feel about a particular situation ... and nobody else.
I've learnt over time that ignoring a post with hurtful intents aimed at you is one of the best options of controling your emotions in a faceless forum like this

Once again sirs, I plead with you both to let peace reign as we strive to achieve our different aims of signing up to this forum.

How about the terrazzo floor? Is it an expensive flooring option? I observed it's seldom mentioned here.

I don’t always go by the prices on here. Some of the prices are hyped up for the abroadians and IJGB that can’t or won’t enter market themselves.

There’s always a problem for every solution in Nigeria.

40,000 per sqm for hardwood floor. Anyone can quote anything. I got my 8mm Parquet Floor (with underlay, waterproof and silent) from Shoprite clearance sales section in Lekki for fraction of that cost.
Because Nigerians won’t buy cos of their fixed mindset, I got it dirt cheap from the store.

Less than 6,000k per pack.

______
If you go to Mushin, the 40k per sqm will be demystified but the “pros” will tell you it’s fake even though that’s where most of the 5 star hotels in Lagos shop.

Thank you very much. The German floor was done the Nigeria way as I wasn't there to personally supervise it. My issue with tile is aesthetic. I feel we are over using it in Nigeria. I may have to mix it up like using tiles in the kitchen and some rooms and use hard wood in the area that is going to be most feasible to me

I only have tiles in public areas in my personal build (areas with lots of foot traffic). I have rug, laminated wood floors and carpets in other rooms.

It’s still a house right? grin

Some even went as far as buying wood lookalike tiles in a country blessed with so much woods.

With the use of the tongue and keyboard, let's showcase the best in us, not the stress and hate in us. Having said....
Would you dress your concrete cast fascia with plastering before roofing commences to avoid interference or just do a complete roofing and then a complete plastering of the entire building when set?
Am getting conflicting opinions from my caretaker, architect and site engineer.

This is an example of what I meant by overbuilding in Nigeria.
/
Nigeria is where one thing works and everyone jumps on it and beat it to death.

2 pillars and send down the rain? POP wall mouldings? Brick tiles? They will put these three examples on anything called house....until they are played out.

While at it, think of Highlander, Infinity FX, Lexus RX and Venza. Just about every comfortable family had one of these to feel fulfilled. Why? The same herd mentality that makes us all sittings ducks for extortion by men of “god”. Dare to be different?

Took the strong steps of just closing my eyes

Bought 200 bags of cement @₦3200 (Lafarge)

Bought 50 Glova Paint
Bought 12 Vinko bond
More than enough original Coleman Cables (1.5mm, 2.5mm and 4mm)

The amount spent alone today is enough to complete a foundation for a 4 bedroom bungalow in some parts of NIGERIA
