Congratulations and welcome to Mercedes Benz grin. I think you made the right choice, all your other options would have kept you up at night. I used to be against forced induction too, but after seeing how easily turbo engines can get tuned i had to give in. I’m sure the M278 will push 500hp easily with just a tune, but M273 will certainly be more reliable because at the end of the day, a turbocharger remains a maintenance part. I always enjoy how you document everything grin. Now come down to abuja lets race, i just installed test pipes grin

Thanks, boss.

And yeah, the M278 is ridiculous. Weistec's stage 1 tune gives ridiculous numbers. 540 HP and 715 lb-ft. Plus the M278 sounds ridiculous with a simple resonator delete.

But yeah, I was just trying to avoid turbos.

You no dey update us with these mods again. I'm still not sold on even a muffler replacement yet, since I need as much weight over the rear wheels as I can get, for traction purposes when I finally get tuned.

If anything carry me come Abuja, I'll be sure to alert you. wink

yes you picked the right powertrain for our country grin. I will try and document all the mods i’m set to do. I have coilovers, a catback exhaust, and cold air intake on the way. I’m contemplating on getting a tune because of bad fuel, my engine fit knock sad

I dey get pinging some times for the VQ. I've simply learnt to live with it. cheesy

You should get a tune, though. If not, your exhaust and intake won't yield any noticeable gains.

What catback are you running?

mine never start yet grin. I might risk a tune but i will have to be running octane booster. The main purpose of my mods is not really for power gains, its just to refresh my love for the car, because i’m already thinking about another car and all my options are still on the high side.

BTW, allow me to make two recommendations.

2012 Jaguar XFR.
510 HP and 461 lb-ft. 4.4s to 60, 12.7 at 114mph quarter mile stock.
Same engine on cars on the Range Rovers and Jaguar F-Type, and you can get it to 550 HP+ easily.

2012 Audi S4 or S5 depending on whether you want a coupe or sedan.
333 HP, 325 lb-ft. 4.4s to 60 and 13.0 at 105mph quarter mile. You can get to 420 HP with just a tune, and keep up with C63s.

One of my biggest fears was port security. Plenty of stories about Port rats, offloading damage, etc.

It's a bit hard to tell if the car was damaged while offloading. But only one thing was missing when it got to me that I'm sure was in the car when it left the US. The start/stop button. It's a simple $9 item that has been bought.

Headlight control module was also missing.
But I don't know where that happened.

So, on to the most important things.

It's a fine car. Far more refined than the Infiniti, perhaps at the expense of engagement.
Even with the V8, it's not a sports car. It's a grand tourer. Soaks up bumps and has plenty of power on tap.
While the G35 makes its power brutishly and at the top end, the E550 is silky smooth and simply pulls you to ludicrous speeds. Very smooth.

For example, if I have a gallon o fuel when accelerating in the G35, it usually falls over. It doesn't in the Merc. It's the torque that's simply amazing. 394 lb-ft at 2800 rpm. More than an E90 BMW M3, a Lexus LFA, or an Audi R8 V8. About the same as a Ferarri 458 Italia.

In comparison, the G35 doesn't make its peak torque of 268 until about 5300 rpm. That makes for a big difference in driving experience, it also means I can sit at 100km/h with the engine lazying about at 1500 rpm.

That said, the VQ35HR is a much more exciting engine. This 5.5L was designed for smoothness in the S Class, not for racing. It shows. The exhaust note is also very muted, and even when you step on it, it just growls softly.

Make person dash me Magnaflow mufflers, I'm pleading.
Cc: Radautoworks

The car is fully loaded, essentially. It's only missing the Distronic Package.

The 12-speaker Harman Kardon system bangs. It's almost overkill for a coupe.

I have heated seats, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, paddle shifters, pretty much everything.

Handling isn't as good as the G35. You can feel the weight of the car. But it's definitely capable. Besides, my boy racer days are over.

Steering is too light. It's what I hate most about the car.

Engine is rated at 382 HP, but I'll eventually get a tune to push it to 415 HP. Other planned mods include exhaust work, an Android headunit, and UR strut bars for tighter handling.

Car has just 88k miles on it with complete service history.

Shout out to

Congratulations. Did you ever tinker with the G35? You talked about disabling the AWD and stuff back then.

I hear cold air intake and muffler delete all the time. Why don't cartalkers talk of cosmetic modifications? Spacers, fender rolls, slamming grin.
Perfomance wise lets hear about remapping the ECU or throwing in a supercharger.

Personally, I'll have preferred the Acura TL. The Merc looks tame and trust me your boy racing days are far from over.

Thanks.

Most cosmetic mods look immature, are expensive, and only get you more attention. Most car enthusiasts don't appreciate that. Also, Nigerian roads are bad enough without slamming the car, unless you're running bags, which is very expensive.

Better to do things like intakes and ECU, exhaust, etc. Everything may not even cost up to 1m.

I never disabled the AWD. The G35's AWD system only kicks in when slip is detected, otherwise it's RWD. There was little to no benefit to disabling AWD, especially since the car doesn't have a limited slip differential anyway.

My boy racer days aren't quite over, truth be told. I still enjoy bullying people on the highway. But I do it a lot more sensibly now, and only on roads I know very well. At this point in my life, I just want to have the power available for when I need it, while just cruising about in comfort. The G35 is a car that demands to be driven hard. This one doesn't at all.

I'm not a fan of the styling of the pre-facelift TL. And still, it just lacked the power I needed.
