I have been reading comments from various lawyers and SANs across the country, and the truth is none of them can point to any section of the constitution that says the national assembly can summon the President at will. There is simply no such provision in our constitution. The framers of the constitution made the President the single most powerful entity on the planet.

Those comparing nigeria to america are only delusional. American constitution is even worse. The congress can't even summon cabinet officers let alone the President.

All our media-obssessed political lawyers especially Ozhekome have laid out so far seems to be gibberish with nothing concrete. They should simply show us the constitution provision that mandates the president to appear at the national assembly whenever they call. And if he doesn't can they sue him to Courthuh

I stand to be corrected though
This is how you guys create mobsters and monsters out of ordinary presidents! Abacha was told by many scoundrels that Nigeria will implode without him and that he's the man whom the "cap fits"! He's dead over a decade now and the country is still moving on.. When you juggle the law to make a president feel untouchable, you are directly growing a dictator.

It's not a matter of juggling law, whatever that means. No President can be summoned! Period.

Don't exaggerate the powers of legislature. Their job is to make laws not political gimmicks

Also don't read into the law what doesn't exist. The fact remains national assembly has no power to summon Mr President. It simply isn't part of the constitution.

And also if I was buhari I won't adhere to the summons. Not because I don't respect the Nigerian people (of which those greedy hooligans don't actually represent) but because this is nothing more than political trap to turn the whole thing into circus. There house of rep are scammers and not honest at all
I don't think I'd change a single word in the above if I'd written it myself. Who the heck do the Senate think they are to summon the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to appear before them? Ordinary minister tells Senate to do one and some think bubu would appear. Lol!

As a Northerner, don't you have some questions for the president?
Like endsars, they have turned to mean people are after Buhari,
I wonder when the general became a baby

National Assembly can subpoena anybody including the President
The Senate can summon anyone they want including the President and God if they want, but the Senate have no power to make the President or God appear before them.

It's not about where you are from or what questions you might have or what party you're in but about the powers you have to accomplish it, and the Senate have no such powers to make the President appear before them. In fact, the only power the Senate have over the President is that of impeachment for which he still does not have to appear before them. Or do you think they can ask for him to be arrested and dragged before them?
Re: Nobody Or Arm Of Government Can Summon The President? by budaatum: 2:35am On Dec 11, 2020
P.s. I've been saying Senate, but the lack of power is moreso where the House of Reps is concerned.
Re: Nobody Or Arm Of Government Can Summon The President? by StaffofOrayan(m): 2:48am On Dec 11, 2020
Buhari himself agreed to appear until people like you and other sycophants started quoting the law over an ethical matter,
This would be the last chance to hear from Buhari in person, everything from now would be from 'the presidency',
This decision was championed by governors, Akeredolu, El Rufai and co led the charade, you think they did it because they love the law so much or because they don't ever want to be held accountable themselves, they even said that much!
Why can't most people see the consequences of what they blindly defend?

Please stop. You make it sound as if bubu is some sort of God and not questioning him by some useless House of Reps would kill you. Are you not the people who voted him in as President? Oh no, I'm sure you personally did not vote for bubu, you would claim, but are you not one of us, a Nigerian, who after voting, bubu is President? Some useless House of Reps issue a summons they know is worthless and you think that is your opportunity to question bubu as if bubu and both Houses are not one and the same useless lot. The pox on you and them all!

You fail to realise that it is us who elected him President. That it is to us that they all are responsible. That it is we that must question them, and not they who should set up some silly charade to deceive us by questioning themselves. Have you not been following what happened to the orange turd who rules the United States of America? The people did not only question him, they found him wanting despite all his I won I won and have kicked his useless orange ass out. That is how you question a President in a democracy. You, rather, we the people question our leaders note, leaders, plural, at the ballot, and if we do not like the way they do the job we allot to them to do we kick their stupid incompetent asses out of our Aso Rock and out of both our Houses!

Election is in 3 years. I suggest you begin preparing now. If you do not, bubu will finish his term and another useless person will be elected as our President along with his useless helpers in both Houses to rule for 4 years. I promise you that if you think Nigeria is bad now, you go on hoping summoning the President to the House will enable you to question him or her when what we should be doing is questioning every single leader in every position of power in the country, and I swear by all things holy that I shall be laughing at our pain and numerous deaths! Believe me when I say it is not as bad now as it is going to become.

Do note, buda questions God so bubu is too small for me to fear questioning. You, Sir, will be filled with strenght.

You're quoting someone whom has surrendered his reasoning to stupidity.

He's a Fulani man claiming Deltan.

Am actually new here in nairaland, after being a visitor, since 2015 i decide to join this day.
Back to the matter BUHARI, was elected by Nigerians, same as the national assembly, representing the Nigerian populace, this make the national assembly has all the right, to summon BUHARI for a meeting, as they are the mouth piece of the people and rightfully, represent their minds.
So his Excellency should go and present himself to the national assembly he is a public servant not the owner of this country Nigeria.
