I read comments here by my people.

But one certainty: outsiders increasingly associating Imo state with prostitution is sickening.
People from all over Nigeria jam Owerri on frolicking holidays. Sleep with young students is why they come.
Young students are in large quantum, nearing a quarter, or even half of a million, in Owerri, owing to jamming together Fed Unitech, Imo university, Alvan Ikoku, Fed Poly, Fed College of Land Resource Technology in Owerri and nearby Imo state Poly.
But no tertiary education institution in the vast lands of Orlu and Okigwe zones.
The mistake has been made in the past.
Remedial step is: take Imo state university out of Owerri since it has no permanent site yet, and there is little or no university structures built on its site in Owerri.
Why would we watch the university built by Okorocha government in his hometown waste, instead of taking most part of Imo state university to Okorocha’s hometown, as recommended by the last government committee?
Not doing this is condoning the prostitution tag which outsiders hang on the necks of all of us in Imo state.

Although i really didn't like Rochas for his penchant for low quality roads, truth is that he had practical vision for Imo state. Rochas had a technical mind on what was feasible or what was needed to achieve his vision for Imo state. Albeit, his urge to cut corners always made him settle for low quality construction.

However from the looks of it, Hope Uzodinma has ZERO idea about how to develop Imo state. He also does not have a technical mind, thus really embarks on silly unworkable projects just to appear as though he was doing something. I have been looking at his plan to demolish all roundabouts and replace them with 4 way-Junctions and i wonder why he hadn't noticed that the British knew we needed stable, constant electricity to power traffic lights to operate a system of 4 way intersections, than roundabouts which could function efficiently without electricity. Countries without constant electricity cannot operate the 4 way intersections else it would be totally chaotic and impossible to pass those junctions even in places with the most patient drivers. The same man bulldozing all roundabouts in Owerri as an "urban renewal plan" has no plans to improve electricity supply in the city to ensure his traffic lights would work 24 hours of the day and forestall traffic jams that result when traffic lights fail.

He bulldozed the tunnels without going ahead to construct proper flyovers at those spots to add value to what the tunnel was supposed to do. The same bulldozing mindset was why he pulled down a N1.6 billion naira building called Somto Hospital. If that building could not be used as a hospital, it could be used as a vocational training center for youths/artisans, a school for handicap, an indoor computer or phone market, or even a police station with some rooms converted to jails. Why would a poor state in Africa pull down buildings that could be used or donated for other uses?

It is becoming clear that Hope does not have any plans whatsoever to develop Imo state. All he wants to do is to blame the previous Governors for this or that, then continue to demolish this and that just to buttress his point, without adding any value to the state.

Actually creating beautifully designed and maintained roundabouts are better traffic control and urban beautification strategy than building 4-way traffic junctions. Roundabouts give the city an iconic identity recognizable globally that featureless traffic light junctions. Even American cities are introducing more and more iconic roundabouts in their cities than tasteless 4-way traffic light junctions. Mind you, Americans have enough electricity to run as many traffic light junctions as they wanted.

The problem with many Nigerian Governors especially in the southeast is a total lack of vision. Thus, they copy just ANYTHING to be seen as doing "something". In most cases, they don't think of what they are doing, it's practicability or it's relevance.

I've also noticed the quality of road art in the SE is ugly and stupid. Which is insane because if you go all over the world, Igbo people are always ranking with the top artists, creatives and sculptures. But you go to the place they're from and you'll see nonsense. Compare the amount of history on display in Benin with any Igbo city and you'll even wonder if we started this Igbo culture of a thing this summer.

What we lack most is wide sidewalks at least at city centers. It's not rocket science but our people oppose drainage covering

There are several factors that help to make a city to develop fast aside having a port or huge allocations. P.H is a volatile region many people avoid in investing in, except when it's very crucial. Secondly, the swampy nature of the terrain makes it difficult and more expensive to build or develope structures.

How developed is P.H despite all the humongous allocations, oil activities and port?

How rich is Ebonyi State? What's their federal allocations? How significant is their IGR? Has any of this shortcomings stopped Umahi from developing the state??

In normal countries with educated elites following political leaders, underground pipes for treated water for public supply, gas pipes for domestic supply, sewage system, electricity and telephone cables are first laid underground before the less important roads are built.

But building roads first implies that in future, the roads must be broken to lay down the pipes and cables.

It’s most foolish to believe that private water boreholes, for example, shall remain as substitute for public water supply system in Imo state. Bad leadership.

Mbakwe started with, and completed laying down public water supply pipes in four of the five senatorial districts of old Imo state. He did not do that of Orlu senatorial district because of the still unending bad politicians from the zone. The water supply pipes are still intact in Owerri and Okigwe senatorial zones.

With the improvement in technology private boreholes are very good alternatives to public treated water supply just like solar charged inverters are good alternatives to public power supply. We failed in planning our cities from the onset and correction will be too expensive to embark on presently. We should be focused on good drainage and clean environment

Awka and Onitsha are individually developing a trillion faster and better than Owerri and all of Imo state. Roads in Owerri are far worse than anywhere in Anambra how much more Awka and Onitsha. Roads in Owerri can only be compared to the roads in Aba. Owerri and Aba are so similar in bad roads and filth. This is why most Imo people are living in Onitsha but you dare not find a single Anambran living anywhere near Imo state. Fact

Owerri developed faster than Port-Harcourt between 2013 and 2019.. Port-Harcourt only picked up last year because Okorocha's successors scared investors away with their actions. Many of those who have returned to Port-Harcourt were already planning establishing zonal office in Owerri before power changed hands and threats of revoking C of O or demolishing already developed areas filled the air.

The highlighted part defines Owerri 100%. Owerri is not different from Aba when it comes to roads. Propaganda has a limit.

Afam4eva:
There have been talks about how past and present Imo governors have developed only Owerri in detriment to Orlu and Okigwe. While that is true, it's not only peculiar to Imo state. it is a Nigerian problem. The issue is just that even the Owerri that they have focused on doesn't have much to show for it. The city currently has some of the worst roads in Nigeria even though some of these roads were done not to long ago. So, the problem here in lack of quality infrastructure rather than the lack of it. That's why sometimes, it's difficult to rate Rochas's tenure as governor because even though he built a lot of things, they were substandard and fell apart as soon as they were built.

It is also pertinent to note that throughout the country, apart from Lagos owing to it's conurbation attribute, most states do not do much outside the state capital. Why do you think we keep complaining about how bad the roads are in Aba? It;s simply because it's not the capital of Abia state. If it was an Abia problem then Umuahia roads would have been just as bad as that of Aba but governors try to make the state capital look decent since that where they will be receiving visitors from.

Owerri-Awka Road is the correct name for this road called Owerri-Orlu Road. The road shall serve Owerri to Awka - short cut to Enugu and Abuja- if the bridge at Ideato is now built.

Orlu needs its dilapidated urban roads to be rebuilt by IMSG now.

Orlu needs its dilapidated urban roads to be rebuilt by Orlu LGA now.

While IMSG uses our commonwealth to rebuild Owerri urban roads approaching once rural villages in Owerri area; abi?

The same way Federal Govt of Nigeria uses our commonwealth to build only Abuja but ignore Owerri and other towns in Nigeria, abi?

Anyhow, your level of education did not permit you to understand the meaning of, and differences between a state and state capital.

Governors that think like you end up in ignominy after their tenure.

What is the population of natives of the three LGAs that make up Owerri capital territory?

You have no idea that at election time, most of the people who live in Owerri capital territory vote according to what development a governor did in their hometowns.
