The concept of destiny and predestination has always been a subject for argument as some ardently believe in it while others don't, some others are just indifferent about it. I used to tell people that if destiny does not exist, then why does the word 'destiny' have a translation in most or even every languages? Yoruba people will always say that, 'the head that will wear the crown must eventually wear the crown'.

Personally, I believe that destiny is what we don't have control over, a path or a pattern a man's life trajectory must follow, an unavoidable end of a man either good or bad. However, I think that not all men have destinies to fulfill as some are mere victims and beneficiaries of choices, circumstances and chances. I will explain.

I see life as a movie that has both active and passive actors and God Almighty, the Creator himself is the script writer. I think that only the active actors, those who have a major role in life have destinies. Jeremiah 1:5 says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” No wonder people always say God knows tomorrow just like a scriptwriter will alway know the end of a movie he wrote.

The life of Jesus Christ is a perfect example of destiny and I belief many other people of old and present age are like that. Take for example, Goodluck Jonathan, how would he have become a president in a country like Nigeria if not for destiny? Destiny can also be an incurable curse and that's is why some people don't have the power to stop somethings about themselves (habits and characters) because they are destined for destruction. For example, some people will never stop arm robbery just because they are destinies to die by the gun.

On the other hand, can we say that those babies that were born and died immediately have destinies? Well, I don't think so, I will group them with the passive actors in life, those who plays minor roles in life (the waka pass). Some other lives are victims and beneficiaries of choices, circumstances and chances- those who the saying, 'your destiny is in your hands' fits. I belief this set of people are the majority in life. They can achieve whatever they want to.

Well, the above are just my personal thoughts destiny which are subjected to debate and reorientation. In fact, I have heard from an elderly man who is a strong believer in destiny that, some men are destined to have more than one wife no matter how discipline they are. Hmmm!

Now, do you also believe in destiny? If yes, can destiny be really altered by prayers and curses? And for those who do not believe destiny, what are your reasons?

Elders in the house, where are you?

The only destiny i believe in is this..... It pays to be born rich: Children with wealthy parents are MORE likely to be successful than intellectually gifted kids born to low-income families

STC! STC!!

OP, why do u waste your time pondering a question you have absolutely no chance of answering when there are thousands of questions that are of practical value?

Were Adam and Eve not major players? What was there destiny? Obviously none - it depended on what they chose to do. How about mankind as a whole? God regretted creating man because it turned out he was evil. How about Israelites - everything depended on what they chose to do, no destiny!

Destiny from a Christian perspective poses a huge conflict in the reconciliation of freewill and faith.

If you are given freewill by God, there should be no such thing as destiny. But if God is omniscient, it means every thing is predestined as God already knows before anything happens.

This has implications for how we should also see the consequence of “hell”. Will you be going to hell for exercising your free will or will you be going to hell because God knows what is to come (hence you’re destined for hell)?

According to the bible the moment you connect with God... you have a chance to table your request in prayer...
Thats choosing your own destiny. .

The school of thought is very conflicting especially when making a point from the Christian or religion point of view.

Your destiny is in your hand.
If you have freewill then no destiny.
We might just be a tiny fraction of this infinity universe and this tiny rock called earth careless about us.

So if you asked me what is destiny? Destiny is past action which means it is what has happened to you in the past and not what will happen to you in future. So if I buy car today, it is my destiny because it has happened to me. So any action that hasn't come to pass is not destiny according from my own perspective. Peace

Polycap whispered to the love of his life " if it isn't destiny that brought us together then what?" His love Monica looks into his lustful eyes, she knew the games. "I am destined to marry a rich man" Monica replied confidently.
Polycap knew he wasn't the Mr. Destiny, he never wanted to be, he never could have been, he was only after Monica first Fruit.
He grew closer to Monica, his fore head leaning against hers, his looks this time wasn't a feigned look of love like he acted earlier; his looks was like that of a perverted uncle trying to catch a feel with his underage niece, Monica saw his true intention she felt rather disgusted at Polycap; that feeling later changed to thrills as his hands found itself around her bossom.
Monica wanted it to stop but also wanted it to continue; "stop stop it" she said but her moans betrayed her words. "Stop stop it" another voice resonated with Monica soft pretentious voice it was her father, yes Monica father. Polycarp ran like a Lamborghini on a free express road. Never to be heard, never to be seen.
Years later young Monica is now a Lady in her 50s still looking radiant, she gazed upon old Polycarp working in her multi million naira site of one of her luxurious homes. Age did Polycarp no good, as the eyes of both then lovers locked.
Monica smiled, Polycarp smiled. Monica over the years did marry a rich man that helped her build her career while Polycarp spent his youth chasing beautiful girls like Monica and never for once tried to be a rich man destined to marry his then love. It is either his love was weak or his motivation to succeed was weak or both.

A line from Monica words after a lengthy conversation " I wanted to marry a rich man, so I worked hard to be of a status worthy"

You see Destiny is not "what you are meant to be or do" if it actually exist. Destiny is what you are meant to sacrifice to be what you are to be"
Polycarp realized the destiny man for Monica could be anybody, No, not someone far, but someone who is ready to push, ready to take that position of destiny. But Polycarp realization was already too late.

I believe in destiny. This is the reason I don't compare my life to others because we have our seperate path to tread in this life. this is the reason I don't believe that anyone is better than me and I also not better than anyone even you are US president son.

Destiny does exist and the individual has little or no control over it. Tho it may tarry but it will definitely come to be.

If you are on a path that does not align with your destiny you'll definitely know if you are sensitive.
