If you believe destiny is not real you are destined to believe it's not real... this destiny stuff is complicated, I was once the last passenger in a car then I said to myself I was destined to be in that place at that moment to be the last passenger what if i had stayed back some mins at home? I wont have know that such car was there that day... we sometimes use our action to disrupt other people's life can we now say they are destined for that, like the boko haram issues, can we say those people are destined to die in Bokoharam hand what if the country have acted responsibly there might not be any Bokoharam this destiny of a thing ehn as much as we can say your destiny is in your hands, there are some things that are technically beyond us...

Listen to Christ

Luk 13:23  Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
Luk 13:24  Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Luk 13:25  When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
Luk 13:26  Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

Anybody that says there's no destiny doesn't know anything about life. And there's nobody whose destiny is in their hands.
Imagine an aborted feotus: was his destiny also in his hands?
And Op,prayer can only change situations,it cannot change destiny.
Imagine when jesus, while on the cross, begged God to change his destiny of dying that night, did God oblige him? No!Because that was his destiny! To whoever cares to know,we are living in a programmed world. We can only pray and struggle for a better life but we can't escape destiny.

Destiny from a Christian perspective poses a huge conflict in the reconciliation of freewill and faith.

If you are given freewill by God, there should be no such thing as destiny. But if God is omniscient, it means every thing is predestined as God already knows before anything happens.

This has implications for how we should also see the consequence of “hell”. Will you be going to hell for exercising your free will or will you be going to hell because God knows what is to come (hence you’re destined for hell)?
Calvinism believes that some are destined for hell no matter how much effort they put in to enter God's kingdom. Can we say that Adams and evil where destined to disobey God in the garden of Eden?! personally, I think it's a matter of choice.

It's in your hands
How is your destiny in your hands? A baby that was aborted in his mother's womb, how was his destiny in his hands? A plane that crashed, how was the passengers' lives in their hands? Destiny is not about what you do but what happens to you that you can't control.

no I believe life just plays out. You can take a gun and shoot someone dead right now. Does that mean it’s their destiny?

Destiny(akalaka in igbo) is simply the outcome of a man's life based on either God's perfect Will or God's permissive will.Either way there is always a part to play by the person. Destiny is like faith, without works it is futile.

I disagree with you.Destiny was never a matter of choice.Infact,it's Your destiny that pushes you to make the choices you make.Did Jesus decided on his own to die on the cross?

You are so on point OP.
I have always believed we are all products of our choices. Then when the results happens, we call it fulfillment of destinies.

No one knows what will happen in the next minutes, not to talk of the future. So only the maker (God) knows.

Your destiny pushes you to make the choices you make hmmm.... including wrong choices, that's what you're saying in other words...so if I'm destined to die somewhere for instance, I'd go to where it would happen and nothing would be able to prevent it

Someone was destined to betray Jesus...I can't remember a verse in the old testament where this was prophesied.Even if Judas made a choice not to betray Jesus, someone else would..

You can control your choices but not destiny..

Destiny is like a planned out scenario, someone somewhere must fulfil it, either you or someone else..
If its prophesied that you will be rich, someone will just make that choice to bless you..and likewise if you are destined to be poor...

Have you seen where poor people pray and go to church daily yet, they still die poor..and some will live in promiscuity and sin and still die rich...

Yes....No matter your efforts toward better life...you cannot go beyond what your creator desired for you...That is why, some peoples will find themselves when don't expect it or work for it..it is because it in their destiny to be there...although prayer play a major role in destiny...

SO IF YOU BELIEVE IN DESTINY IT MEANS PEOPLE WHO WILL ENTER HEAVEN AND HELL IS DESTINED

SO WHY DISTURBING PEOPLE BY PREACHING AND CORRECTING PEOPLE..SINCE GOD HAS DESTINED EVERYTHING

FOR ME , I CAN NEVER BELIEVE IN DESTINY

I'm Yoruba and I believe the correct translation for 'destiny' in Yoruba is 'Àyànmó'.

I ask myself, what does this mean!?
Simply put without complicating matters, àyànmó breaks down as;

"To choose (yàn) and add (mó) to something already in place/existing".

Hence the philosopher said; 'Mans destiny is in his hands'.

Dangote sits atop the financial chain in the country today because he keeps adding to his dreaming new ambitions, Elon is making waves because he won't stop choosing newer ideas to pursue......... If as a poor man you fail to 'choose' to be rich and do what's required you shall remain poor.

In life, everything grows/expands/get better by receiving novelty. A man that doesn't desire a good thing wouldn't do the works necessary to achieve and hence shouldn't expect to receive the fruits of doing the good works.

It's astounding the wisdom we can attain IF we come back home

By the choices I make, hence my actions and/or inactions I Am.

Come back home and stop confusing yourselves by means of a foreign language.

Have a blessed week everyone and make better choices as you add to your life, this is the work, this is destiny!
