check these

(1) ask ur mechanic/panel beater to check if the catalyst (AKA indomie) is still there cos it's always a soft target for vandals and will jack up ur fuel consumption like mad.

(2) check electrical parts which includes spark plugs, coil (plug coil), nozzles, fuel pump and the injector itself. these are major determinants of fuel consumption in a car.

(3) the most unbelievable one to nigerians, check ur car's alignment, all four Tyres.



if u get these right, high fuel consumption will be history.

That No. 1, Nigerians have been peddling this for decades, i don't think you're correct. The work of a catalyst on a vehicle is not to minimize fuel consumption like you guys paint it.

Kindly explain to me how the absence of catalyst will "jack up fuel consumption like mad". What does it do on a vehicle?

Your highlander doesn't have an mpg meter, you only assumed with the figures you have. Buy full tank, reset the trip meter and drive vehicle to atleast till you reach half tank.
Let's work with the half tank trip to measure your mpg better than 4k fuel theory

Whats your average speed?
That will determine if the consumption is okay or not.
If you regularly drive along diya street in gbagada and through bariga, your mileage will suck.
What is your average speed?
How many liters did the 4k fuel get you?
Lastly, are your brakes binding?

Brakes are good though I hear a drag noise when ease of break pedal

I also noticed the RPM keep dropping after 2/3days and have to visit mechanic to raise it.

When I move at high speed on a highway, I feel the car hesitate during gear exchange like something is strangling it making it Jack a little.

I learnt from the old user that the engine was just replaced 4 months ago.

Just worried.

Buy a scanner, scan the vehicle first note down the codes, clear all codes and drive vehicle till check engine light comes on then rescan and post the codes generated here so we diagnose your issues

Let's solve your problem.


Your engine is equipped with a 1MZ engine which is comes with variable timing.

Currently what you have installed is a 1 or 2mz engine from probably a camry 1998 or a Toyota Kluger without Variable timing.


Engine will run, engine will consume fuel .



You have been humbled sir.


Solution, find an arrogant mechanic.
