This idea sounds familiar. Where have I heard it before? Here's a text excerpt from NEDG/BON Vice Presidential Debate ahead of 2019 Elections. Peter Obi: ...you can see from a study that there’s a direct link between SMEs and growing your economy — and we are not supporting our own SMEs very well. If you look at what China has been able to do with the SMEs, SME in China is contributing 60% of their GDP. And 60% of China GDP is 7.2 trillion, which is 18% of Nigerian GDP. They are contributing 60% of the employment.Note that this submission was ridiculed by the opposition and their supporters. Here we are again now. |

Every business started as small business. If there is no conducive environment for them to strive them we can't help our economy. |

This man Osinbajo is really active to what is going on in the street, many small business owners could never t make their sales due to different officials. Government need to do something to create enabling environment for business to survive. |

This government is really trying in assisting the MSMEs. I love the part where the VP said Nigerians should call out government officials who frustrate their businesses. |

jojofola:You have said it all. Who is buying ? I see people selling biscuits and they are paying rent. Some selling cement and they are paying rent. Hair dressers and they are paying rent. Look into their weekly profit, it's like N5,000. What ? N5k Which is less than their monthly rent. How are they going to cope with N5k per week ? Money that a family of 4 is supposed to spend in a day. The purchasing power of the middle class Nigerian is nothing to write home about. |

SmartPolician:One guy who runs a photocopy shop told me that his NEPA bill is N22,000 a month. I just laughed in my mind. The place was empty and lacks patronage. If you understand how civil servants reason about businesses you would laugh. They must have seen he had 10 photocopy machines in his shop and factored all into his NEPA bill, not knowing that maybe 7 are spoilt. |

DesChyko:What Peter Obi wrote there is very simple to understand. But this govt doesn't want truth. Anyone who knows this and joins APC starts speaking like Lai Muhammad. For example in Nigeria, SMEs were doing very well between 2001 to 2010. A situation where you have government officials or civil servants are more prosperous than business people or business men are trekking on foot is not healthy for the economy. How many people can government employ ? In a sound economy, SMEs provide over 60% of employment opportunities in a country. But how many SMEs today can feed their owners talkless of employing staff ? Lagos state government that also likes to demolish people's shops and businesses should take note of this. They have been in this habit for so many years. You are killing businesses. |
