This idea sounds familiar.
Where have I heard it before?

Here's a text excerpt from NEDG/BON Vice Presidential Debate ahead of 2019 Elections.

Peter Obi: ...you can see from a study that there’s a direct link between SMEs and growing your economy — and we are not supporting our own SMEs very well. If you look at what China has been able to do with the SMEs, SME in China is contributing 60% of their GDP. And 60% of China GDP is 7.2 trillion, which is 18% of Nigerian GDP. They are contributing 60% of the employment.
.China today, using the same SME, is guaranteed 10 million jobs annually. This year alone, half of this year, China have produced 7.2 million jobs which is over 40% of their target. Within the same period, Nigeria lost 44 million jobs. So we need to rejig this and have a better focus on how we can create jobs. As long as we don’t create jobs and have the number of unemployed youths in their productive age that we have today, we are going to have crisis.
Note that this submission was ridiculed by the opposition and their supporters.

Here we are again now.

Every business started as small business. If there is no conducive environment for them to strive them we can't help our economy.

This man Osinbajo is really active to what is going on in the street, many small business owners could never t make their sales due to different officials. Government need to do something to create enabling environment for business to survive.

This government is really trying in assisting the MSMEs.
I love the part where the VP said Nigerians should call out government officials who frustrate their businesses.

kushme:
Prof. Osinbajo said “but I think that one of the drawbacks that we have had in improving the business environment is really with respect to how we regulate small businesses. So, for example in Abuja, I hear very frequently, small businesses who talk about the kind of problems that they experience, either with fumigation licenses, or one license or the other. All manner of constraints, which ideally should not occur.”

Yes we as individuals have to get ride of every form of greediness, laziness and all forms of hatred and be our brothers keepers.standing against the progress of others hinders yours too.
The big business you see today started as small business

Wicked humans.. Buhari no dey try but the average Naija gov' worker is a terrible person.

For things to work well for us, we need to slow down on our greed and reduce our envious eagerness to possess material wealth ..

A failed government that keeps talking about SMEs.

Clowns.
Y'all must think it is the free/discounted CAC registration fee you push out at intervals that makes it count?

Omo.
We are now all sellers, selling and selling.
Who is buying?
You have said it all.

Who is buying ? I see people selling biscuits and they are paying rent. Some selling cement and they are paying rent. Hair dressers and they are paying rent.

Look into their weekly profit, it's like N5,000. What ? N5k

Which is less than their monthly rent. How are they going to cope with N5k per week ? Money that a family of 4 is supposed to spend in a day.

The purchasing power of the middle class Nigerian is nothing to write home about.

Stop speaking grammar and fix electricity. How can businesses thrive in an environment where there's no power?

The money that barbing saloon, restaurants, cybercafes, etc. use to fuel their generators every day is enough to take such businesses to the next level.
One guy who runs a photocopy shop told me that his NEPA bill is N22,000 a month. I just laughed in my mind.

The place was empty and lacks patronage. If you understand how civil servants reason about businesses you would laugh. They must have seen he had 10 photocopy machines in his shop and factored all into his NEPA bill, not knowing that maybe 7 are spoilt.

What Peter Obi wrote there is very simple to understand. But this govt doesn't want truth. Anyone who knows this and joins APC starts speaking like Lai Muhammad.

For example in Nigeria, SMEs were doing very well between 2001 to 2010.

A situation where you have government officials or civil servants are more prosperous than business people or business men are trekking on foot is not healthy for the economy. How many people can government employ ?

In a sound economy, SMEs provide over 60% of employment opportunities in a country. But how many SMEs today can feed their owners talkless of employing staff ?

Lagos state government that also likes to demolish people's shops and businesses should take note of this. They have been in this habit for so many years. You are killing businesses.
