He wants to rebuild the shops and rent it at an higher price. The traders would be fools to go and rent the shops again. Learn from vespa saga, the lg destroyed shops, built new shops at higher rent. Today most of those shops are empty

In as much as I hate being tribal in my comments,I have observed that when it comes to demolition of markets/shops in Lagos State,it is always done with ipunity and lawlessness by the government because ninety percentage of the shop owners in big markets are easterners.

Obey the laws and your shops won't be demolished.

Can we ever do any right in this country?

Were these shops built last month? What do they mean by illegal structures? Did not someone of appropriate authority not approve the buildings? Did they not see the building while it was under construction? This is what happens when corruption is the order of the day.

If truly the shop owners were not notified and or compensated, then it is unfair what the government did/is doing. Wonder what they will now use that space for. To plant grass/tress or what exactly?

Let's get serious... Notification of demolition would had been given several times with traders daring the Government or paying bribe to civil servants

Only in Nigeria would a place be marked for demolition with red marking for months, yet occupants won't go to court for redress or simply seek redress with the Government
