I wonder what Nigeria is still waiting for! Social Media must be regulated!

The same social media your Lords used in throwing out the previous government with their lies. It won't work for you guys.
If any government should regulate social media it shouldn't be these devils in APC.

Do you know that the Government is still making Business transactions difficult through the banks.
I was told that as from January 2021, cheques for corporate accounts would be invalid and out of use.

Let's imagine a corporate / Company account with 100 leaflets of cheques and 30 pages have just been exhausted.
They will have to process the recent booklets AS IMPOSED BY THE CBN for a minimum of N5,000 .
let's multiply the N5,000 by the existing company / Corporate accounts that exists nationwide.

We must kick against this and I beg the mods to PLEASE MOVE THIS TO THE FRONT PAGE

How does this relate to the topic of discussion

If it's capable of disrupting the peace of the society or capable of infringing on the rights of others, then it's an offence, and should be regulated.

Hate Speech is different from Violent Speech. "I hate Buhari" is an example of hate speech while "Buhari should die" is an example of violent speech, and also a threat.

Suicide really need to be regulated, otherwise many people will embrace it.

The rate at which people are using social media is enormous, and hence subjected to abuse which is quite evident. The need for regulations is indeed called for.

After all terrorism is caused by hate.
If u stop hate speech and not free speech, everything is good to go.
Let the Law hold those who are in power ransom when they are no more immune and also any member of the society who uses hate speech including me.
That way we can limit the spread of hate and propaganda.

Nigeria must regulate this social media nonsense. Social media has become a medium for fake news, hate speech, and division in Nigeria.
Iam 100% in support of the regulations.

Unfortunately, for too many Africans, nothing is right until whites approve. It’s like, you might say something such as, ‘let’s put down Iron roads. Iron roads will cost millions but will recoup cost in savings’, and a fellow African would, say, ‘nah, that’s ridiculous. Impossible, if that idea was any good, they would have done it abroad’. This type of African is in the majority and for this reason we'll never pioneer. Even if every home burns in Nigeria due to online instigations, Nigerians will only approve of social media regulations when white nations approve of it in their nations.

Anti Human Social Progress and Cohesion Terrorists’ don’t require their own forums when Nairaland does the job nicely; Nairaland’s censorship mechanisms aren’t fit for purpose. . Sorry to say this but Nairaland does not positively benefit Nigeria, it negatively impacts Nigeria, for any good it represents is far outweighed by the negatives. This is effectively a Far-right web site.

No, I disagree with you, hate speech is not free speech and can never be.

With this new regulations bill, all the social media providers are now under strict directive to ensure nobody makes or post derogatory comments/materials via social media against any private individuals, institutions, government and etc. By this, UK government is trying to or has technically sent a clear signal that even as you have the freedom of speech, there's a limit to what you can say. Hate speech and fake news are worse than Cancer and terrorism.
Re: Social Media Bill: UK To Set New Regulations For Social Media Companies by GentleRay: 7:35pm On Dec 15, 2020
No! We have freedom of speech, freedom of expression, they say. When national consciousness is threatened you lose your freedom. Bleep freedom! This is an advanced democratic country. Up till now the US had failed to appear before ICC over it's brutal kills in Afgan. Only for the to threaten sanctions on them.

French govt is proposing a law banning citizens from recording officers on duty.

The west doesn't want it's citizens, to see brutal killings from africa. It affects there psyche.

Social media in Nigeria must be censored. But we already have laws for that. Its implementing them thats the issue.

The Goverment agency responsible should stop announcing "We want to censor social media" and just do it

Here's free advice.develop clear guidelines on what constitutes missus of social media and the penalties.broadcast it far and wide and prosecute a few scapegoats.Thats where to start

Fake news can ruin families, cities and countries.Nigerians must do something to curb fake news

I absolutely agree! Not regulated - Bannned!! the way Nairalanders spread hate, propaganda and harmful content such as quarrels between Lai Mohhamed and his mistress, Ned Nwoko and Dabata Lawson, Seun Osewa and Kiki Osinbajo etc all this rumor-mongering and hate speech going on with this platform has to be ultra-regulated and ultimately banned! Aisha Buhari should set-up a committee of responsible women from the Oza room to censor or allow content based on their moral compass grin grin grin ***shhhhh*** just doing my job wey dem pay me to do

They're regulating it to prevent what they consider a troubling menace peculiar to their society.

Here in Nigeria, fake news and hate speech are the most troubling menaces, followed by banditry/ Terrorism/Militancy like IPOB, Boko Haram, Niger Delta Militants, etc.

Nobody is regulating free speech. That's another fake news and propaganda. Ironical, right? grin

But the vast majority of fake news and hate speech comes from the Government or allies of the Government.

Miyetti Allah and that Prof Ishaq fellow have posted more fake news and hateful, divisive nonsense than anyone else. But they are sacred cows in Nigeria.

Meanwhile if 50 people are kidnapped and you mistakenly report that 55 people were kidnapped, Lai Mohammed wants to eat you raw.

Nothing more disgusting than seeing SW APC/BMC clowns push for further curbing of human rights in Naija.

What you tag hate speech is simply someone's freedom of expression. This is a democracy and until we stop "officially" being a democracy, you have no right to stop someone or a groups freedom of expression.
pls b reasonable.there can't b democracy without peace.what ever threatens d peace of a people must b avoided democracy or not.democracy no b madness abeg.where ur right stops, dats where another person's begins.u can't hide behind democracy and perpetrate evil

And criticism of authorities is a menace peculiar to Nigeria abi? The same blanket criticism that the Dullard and his slaves were making during Goodluck Jonathan's administration cannot be made against him, is that not so?

Your "intelligence" us unparalleled. A regime which rode to power by criticising the previous regime must not be criticised. How very brilliant.

There are existing laws to checkmate all this fake news already....are people not been sent to prison for posting fake or malicious news already. So we don’t need any other regulations. Free speech is a fundamental right don’t take it from us
