Very simple:
NIN will be replaced while registering for the recycled number. Shikina.

Of course it should stop them. Law will be made banning recycling of phone numbers. Even if you have lost your sim card for 5 years, you will still be able to retrieve it since your details is still there. Only that a heavy fine may be charged.


This is one of the reasons Nigerians are banned from entering the US. If this is achieved, it will improve our security and citizens identification.

What I expect the TELCOS to do is to update the NIN info at the point of re-registering a recycled number i.e. a recycled number will get updated with the NIN and data of the new customer buying the recycled number.

Nigerian government always act before they think, i came back to Nigeria two years ago only to discover that my BVN linked number have been recycled, Seriously?
I tried to retrive it and was told it's been sold to another person, Stupid.

Then I tried to change the mobile from the bank they told me I will have to wait for 48 hours, that the bank will copy CBN email for this request and it's going to take 48 hours, Amazingly sluggish.

I took the next flight back to Holland the next day, I don't have time to wast with country still operating in stone age.

It won't stop it! All they need to do is to keep track record and time line of when the line recycled! If Mr A is presently using the number, his NIN and all other infos will be active until he discontinue using it and recycle by the Network.

Immediately Mr. B start using the same number, his NIN and other infos become active on the line.

In case of theft, criminal cases, or any court cases that happened to involve the SIM, the network will just provide the time of who, when and what regarding the activities on the line but it's highly advisable if you lost your phone to quickly make a formal report to the police.

I had an experience on this and GLO did a fantastic job with just only email where I detailed what happened with date because I keep records a lot! And they confirmed my story and responded immediately!

Ncc are clueless the number of people that have not enrolled for nin is too much, secondary school students, market women, elderly ones infact lots of people are affected I foresee the deadline will be extended by 6 weeks by the house of reps this is Christmas period no body has time for that nonsense, even mtn, glo airtel, 9 mobile are presently confused now definitely more time is needed for them to work out easy way to submit nin online

I'm sure proper consultations was not done before taking this decision.

I went to buy airtime from vtu vendor and the vendor called out my name , just because I parked buy the road to get VTU , his gadget displayed my information.

It's an understandable measure considering the number of fraudulent and unsolicited calls.

Number recycling is not an issue since the record is with the telecomms coy.

After the last biometric registration process, this should not have been necessary. We queued for days to put our fingerprints on record.
Every subsequent registration should have been enforced to be biometric.
At least if I am biometrically updated, my sim information is secure and dedicated to me alone. It wouldn't need me to go physically to my service provider to link NIN. I could do it online in seconds.
BUT we all went and queued for biometric, THEN they started hawking sim cards on the streets.and in traffic again, meaning the database is corrupted again.
So we have to start from square one again.
If you ask me, there are vested interests who prefer the porous system. It allows for the prevailing situation where kidnappers and terrorists cannot be traced by their phone numbers, in 2020.
In my opinion, it's a deliberate thing. They are knowingly subverting the databases.
