molybdenum0012: you are very correct. number is infinite. recycling phone numbers is meaningless. phone number should be another form of identity. it should be permanent for the owner. just like bank account number, it should be permanent. |

Sanchez01:Your number linked to your bvn is already you identity. That number has you biometric. That number is linked already to your NIN, driver's license, passport, voter's card. If you do a print out of your BVN page, you will see this info. The ministry is trying to create a semblance of being smart why she is grossly dumb. You can retrieve your bank account number with your phone number, license number, etc. 3 Likes 1 Share |

falcon01: That mean anybody can take a phone number to him to dig out details and information, I think that's how those 419 callers use to get peoples details, they will call your names and other details. .. And now that they wanted to add National ID , those road side guys will abuse the system the more 1 Like |

The DG of NIMC wants to prove that he did some work but unwittingly, displaying a very high level of incompetence and failure. Only if we had a listening President! Only if someone could cartoon this! Only if our President could read it! This man would have been shown the exit door |

Awoo88:Yes, well, true. You are correct in some ways, save the goal this time is to prevent people from owning not more than four SIM cards; one from the 4 major ISPs. SIM registrations never needed a BVN. All they needed before now was a valid, government-approved ID. The number or SIM was never mapped via BVN. This time, it will be different as a number mapped by NIN won't be recycled into the market as against the usual practice. There is no doubt that this sudden move is coming on the heels of the ENDSARS movement. The suddenness or note of urgency is an indication that the government is likely desperate at preventing another protest. Perhaps I am overthinking the situation. 2 Likes 1 Share |

JB4life:Yes, you can. However, not more than four. Not sure if this will be revisited by the NCC. |

molybdenum0012: You have made a valid point. Let me add that our ever-competing telcos recycle numbers to avoid being accused of any form inactivity. If you get on the NCC's website, you'll discover they publish from time to time reports from their monitoring of the networks. So, you see the numbers of active and inactive subscribers on each. No telco wants to be seen as going about with an empty pride in case of a very high percentage of inactive subscription. Also, it is a waste of resources. Plus there may be some sort of regulatory measure against them from NCC. So, to tackle this challenge, NCC and the telcos have to calm down and think outside the box, if needed. Because the best option is to ensure nobody is allowed to change their phone number: they may have two or three but not more. No number should be recycled without a certificate of death or sufficient acceptable proofs of permanent emigration. Then NIMC should have and manage a central data pool containing all information on every resident in Nigeria, citizen or foreigner. The information will be coming from CBN and other banks, NIS, NCC and telcos, FRSC, NPC, INEC, and the rest of them that have kept collecting same data from us. So, your number (s) remains yours till death. The implications and benefits are innumerable including proper registration from birth to death, prevention and easy tackling of crimes and fraudulent practices in all facets of living and governance. Then Nigeria will be ready for paradise experience. It is not a rocket science; it is doable. But will our criminally minded political leaders do it? |

I don't have NIN, I applied since 2015 till date one story or the other so I left it for them. I'm sure millions of Nigerians have the same story, I don't have time for this, the last time I went through this stress was during BVN registration and this made me use my father's account number for several years until almost everyone had BVN and registration became easy. All I need is a source of internet and use whatsapp for calls only. I barely make or receive offline calls anyway. |

For many years they have refused to update our electoral system just because it's favouring them to remain in power without our votes but they are now rushing to monitor peoples sim just because they are calling them out for bad governance |

All these coming on the back of the revelation that the FG has been tapping our phones. The desperation adding the NIN number to every phone line suggests something fishy is about to happen. Alot of people will disappear before the next elections. Our online activities will be checked by the regime. Infact, this is the phase one of the social media bill. Open your eyes lads! 2 Likes |

hopyroll: If you provided the number during your sim registration, you don't need to link it again. If you haven't, you need to link it by visiting your telco or its Internet link |
