Who Were Those Wise Men From The East?

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Now not much was said about these wise men, but there must have been something unusual about them to have been able to know about the birth of Jesus, and then come all the way down from the East just to worship Him. Because even those that were in the land where Jesus was born didn't even know about His birth that the news about Jesus birth appeared to surprise them.

Matthew 2:3-6 (KJV)

When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

So not just the King, but even the chief priests and scribes of the people, who knew what was said concerning Him by the prophet, were unaware that the King of the Jews had been born. But the wise men from the East knew and they had come all the way from the East to worship Him. And they kept following His star which they had seen in the East, until it brought them to the place where the little child was.

Matthew 2:10-11 (KJV)

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

So who were these wise men who had knowledge of the birth of Jesus the King of the Jews and the promised Messiah, that would compel them to come all the way from the East so that they would worship Him?

From the little said concerning them, the wise men were without a doubt prophet or men of God, whom God had sent from the East, to pay His only begotten Son a respect worthy of not just a king but the King of Kings, despite that He was yet a little child and lay in a lowly manger.

For it's not that easy for grown-up men to bow down and worship their fellow man, how much more a baby who lay in a lowly manger?

But this particular gesture of the wise men to baby Jesus, gives an idea of the spiritual level that these men walked in despite not emerging from the nation of Israel. They more or less acted like little children of whom Jesus said "of such is the kingdom of God." Matthew 10:14

So God was the One that revealed those things about baby Jesus to the "babes" also known as the wise men from the East, and had used a star to guide them to where baby Jesus was at the time of His birth, even the star which they followed until they got to where the baby was.

It was the same God that revealed to them the birth of His only begotten Son Jesus, that appeared to them in a dream to warn them about not getting back to King Herod concerning their discovery because he had ulterior motives concerning the new born King.

And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

So the wise men had obeyed the voice of God who sent them there and departed back to the East where they had come from through another way, after accomplishing the task that God had given them concerning His only begotten Son Jesus who was born in a manger.

And Jesus grew up to become a Man Mighty both in the Word and Works of God, that He'd without a shadow of a doubt, became the greatest and most influential Man to ever grace this planet. Hence He has worshipped by many a men after He grew up and became the man that He was, and that has continued unabated up til this very day.

However only a few men could ever boast of falling down and worshipping Jesus while He still a baby and yet lay in a lowly manger, when He hadn't accomplished any of those feats.

And they were the wise men from the East.

It was Matthew a disciple of Jesus not some worldly person or gentile, and for Matthew to do so that means they were wise men in God's sight just as the likes of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

So that means they were wise men granted wisdom and understanding by God not the devil. And it was this same God gave them that wisdom that revealed to them the Truth about the birth of His only begotten Son Jesus and how to track Him so that they could reverence Him.

So wherever you got this evidence is not of the Truth but from a completely false source.

Your idea of a conspiracy with Herod is also false because Herod lied to them that he wanted that information because he wanted to also worship Him. And you also contradict yourself when you said that Herod had a secret plan to exterminate the Messiah, so where's the conspiracy there with the wise men but the figment of your imagination and those who imagine such a baseless and unfounded thing?

Or was it a conspiracy to worship King Jesus if genuine?

God was the One that led them with the star to where His only begotten Son lay, if not God would have stopped them before they got there after Herod had asked them to reveal the place to him. But God didn't til after the star had led them to where He was so that they'd worship Him, because the purpose He sent them had been accomplished.

My being honest should tell you that I'm not trying to save face or mislead anybody. As you can see from the thread, many commentators[who aren't JWs] have also alluded to the fact that the men who visited Jesus were astrologers/sorcerers who practiced things forbidden in the Law. Leviticus 20:6, Deuteronomy 18:10-12
If God was the one who directed the astrologers, then he would have led them directly to where Jesus was and not to Jerusalem where Herod was situated.
So God couldn't have been the one who revealed details about the Messiah to worshipers of pagan gods since God at that time revealed details of prophecies to only his Israelite-born servants/prophets. Amos 3:7

You would see also that the star didn't lead them directly to Jesus in the first place but to Herod. Now why would the star lead them to a man that would want to kill the young child? The Wise men (they are not 3. The bible never said 3. That they presented 3 kinds of gifts to Jesus doesn't make them 3 persons) were not bad men. All they did was to inquire from Herod being thr king am sure supposing the new baby to be from the kings lineage....

So the term wise men in ancient time was not just for people who fear God but people who understand times and season, philosophers, people who can predict the future and events among others and these men definitely fit into this category.....

You also will realise that this event occurred about 2-3 or 5 years after the birth of Jesus. And they visited Jesus in Joseph house, not in the manger where he was born.... (You can confirm this from the age of the children Herod ordered to be killed).... This tells you they took time to study the star and to understand it. If they were prophets as alleged by you, it won't take that long. It will be a simple message. But these were not Prophets but astrologers whose occupation was studying of the celestial bodies

They went to the palace because that is where Kings are.
They saw the star of the king and they went to the palace asking"where is he who is born king of the Jews?"

To their surprise,the king wasn't in the palace,an idumean usurper, Herod was on the throne of David,it was times of the gentiles,Herod was made king by the Romans because true Jews are stubborn to foreign influences.
When they realized the King wasn't in the palace,they had to revert to the star which led them to the King.

The mission of the three wise men was not an act of God but an ancient belief and tradition that signs in the heavens portended great--or terrible--things to come.

The three wise men were called the three wise men because of their expertise in astronomy and maybe philosophy

Wise men in Bible times were magicians, sorcerers or astrologers (especially those that worked with palaces). The ones that followed the star were most probably astrologers.
