In the 16th century, during Xmas eve in the Netherlands. There happens to be a man who goes around sharing gifts to the poor and less privilege.


He does it every night and gives food item as well as toys to kids who behaves well.


No one knew where these gifts came from. Until one night a kid saw him placing gifts at the foot of their Xmas tree. The next morning the cat was out of the bag. It was St Nicholas. Hence the name Santa (saint ) Klaus as in Nicklaus .

So in turn kids leave a stocking full of cookies and hot cocoa, because of the cold nights in Europe.

Saint Nicholas was just a rich pious man who does charity for people and who goes in the dead of night to spread joy and happiness by gifting good kids.

Even after his death, people took it in turn to spread this legend and made it into a tradition and so Santa Claus was born.

It spread to the new world ( America) with the immigration of the Dutch settlers.

So where did Christmas come from...? From Dutch tradition. Isn't It beautiful??

Christmas was naturally separated to be a day to celebrate Christ birth (December 25th or not doesn't matter, it's the intention).

Along the line it has become also a cultural event too so that's where santa Claus and the tree comes in.

All these doesn't matter, what matters is that it is a date set aside to remember Christ birth.

Jesus as a name itself, is a transliterated version of the original. In Hebrew form, both Jesus and Joshua are one and the same name. Though, Joshua is very close in pronunciation to the original name than Jesus, they mean the same thing, "Yahweh is salvation".
So in actual sense, Nigerians do name their children, Jesus.

you can name your child Jesus but the title Christ cannot be attached to it cuz Christ means "OUR LORD"..

For nigerians its a choice nt to name their child Jesus.

Okay most Muslim faithful name their sons Muhammed bt they can never attach the title or phrase SAW(peace be upon him) to the child. Y is this so because it would be blasphemy.

Santa Claus has nothing to do with Christianity. It's just a western culture that has been imbibed into the Christmas celebration. In the same vein, Christmas itself has nothing to do with Christianity.
