Really don't know if it's poisonous or not but I was lucky enough to put an end to this particular reptile that have been parading in my Honey bee farm for a while now.

Went to check on my bees this afternoon and I noticed a slight move in the grass...Lo and behold...na this weekend neighbour that have been feasting on my bees for a while now...na stick wey I carry finish the thing head.

Omo e remain small I for be FTC. Not to worry na small I go join Nairaland executive.

You say?? That is a cobra na. It is not poisonous per say, it is venomous. Two different things.

Modified: My Oga @Grandmeistèr said that is not a cobra OP. Bring it to the lab for physical examination.

Venomous: Lethal when injected (directly into the bloodstream).
Poisonous: Lethal when ingested.

Venomous snakes do not grow to be big big. It is either they are thick and short(like gaboon vipers and adders) or they are slim/medium and long. Only constrictors (boas and pythons) need unnecessary size and length to thrive. Venomous snakes can rely on their venom to bring an elephant down.

That said, the most common non-venomous snake in Nigeria is the python and that grass snake or whatever. Any other one should be treated as an enemy of the state.

I hate snakes.

Thanks for the exposition.....I really thank God I saw it first...It was hiding in the grasses...it's just the slight movement that got my attention before I had to look closely to see what is beneath the grass.

This snake hardly bites. ones it sees you, it will run so fast that you may not even see it. It lays egg.

It was obviously trying to get away. Contrary to popular opinion, snakes are not looking out for humans to bite. It is really of no use to them biting/killing you, except in self-defense.

Still good you saw it first though, you never can tell what it considers trespassing.

cobras are known for their hood. this hasnt got one . too slim for a viper. looks like a grass snake. harmless

Cobras only show off their hood when they feel threatened. They extend their hood and assume an upright position to intimidate the enemy. They don’t move about with their hoods.

The moniker is right...the head is too small and the ‘neck’ area too thin to house a hood. Also the coloration isn’t that of any cobra in the western part of Africa. Only the cape cobra has a somewhat similar colour.
1 and 2 is a cobra without inflated hoods and 3 is a cape cobra

What snake is it then? E get big eye and e resemble cobra for my eye. Maybe a boomslang.

That’s a house brown snake it’s not venomous but it’s good you killed it since you weren’t aware and even tho you were aware it’s still good to kill it. These creatures are too creepy for my liking
