So sorry for the delay, although I've told you what to do via WhatsApp. I still felt I needed to respond to this post, so that others can learn. Although its normal for a dog you just mated to produce discharge especially if the mating was successful (pregnant), however the color of the above discharge was making me uncomfortable (seems probably infected). So I advised a broad spectrum prophylactic antibiotics that is safe for pregnant dogs, this is to clear any infection that might be present and I also advised multivitamins to boost immunity. I am very hopeful we will get a positive outcome. Please to others especially breeders, I'll advice you to use studs that are disease-free and if not sure, go to a qualified vet to examine your pet for presence of any disease after mating !!!!

DOG VACCINATION IN NIGERIA

INTRODUCTION
Vaccination is the injection of a killed microbe in order to stimulate the immune system against the microbe, thereby preventing disease. A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing organism and is often made from weakened or attenuated version of that particular pathogen, its toxin or one of its surface proteins. Vaccines work by stimulating the immune system to recognize the infectious agent as foreign and remember it so that the immune system can easily recognize and destroy any of these agents that it later encounters, the immune system then begins the process of developing immunity against this agent. When a sufficiently large percentage of a population has been vaccinated, herd immunity results. The effectiveness of vaccination has been widely studied and verified and has been proven to be the most effective method of preventing infectious diseases.
Vaccination of dogs have contributed both to the health of dogs and also to public health, with human health benefiting from immunization of animals directly and indirectly. Currently, there are geographically defined core vaccines and individually chosen non-core vaccines recommendation for dogs. Core vaccines are vaccines that all dogs should receive to protect them against disease of global significance or where legislation may dictate example; canine rabies while non-core vaccines is dictated by geographic location, life style and exposure. Dogs are susceptible to many diseases and some of these diseases can be prevented or treated with available vaccine. Some of these vaccine preventable diseases include canine distemper, rabies, canine parvovirus enteritis, infectious canine hepatitis, leptospirosis and canine parainfluenza.
In Nigeria, canine vaccination is usually in form of a 5-way vaccine called "DHLPP"standing for Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Leptospira, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus. Vaccination of dogs in Nigeria has been controversial especially with regards its efficacy in preventing vaccinable diseases for example parvovirus. This could be due to prevalence of quackery, mishandling and poor storage of vaccines, and finally lack of production of indigenous vaccines that are well suited for our climate and breeds common in Nigeria.

HOW MUCH IS IT TO VACCINATE DOGS IN NIGERIA
The price of vaccination varies just the same way there are different vaccines with different effectiveness whose prices are different. To also add the fact that economic variables like location of the vet clinic, etc also matters. For instance the cost of vaccination in a vet clinic in an highbrow area like Lekki, Victoria Island etc would not be same as the cost of vaccination in a low income area. Hence it would be misleading to categorically state a particular cost as the amount it takes to vaccinate a dog in Nigeria.


DOG VACCINATION SCHEDULE IN NIGERIA
6 — 8 weeks Distemper, parvovirus
10 — 12 weeks DHLPP (vaccines for distemper, adenovirus [hepatitis], leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus)
16 — 18 weeks DHLPP, rabies
12 — 16 months DHLPP, rabies
Every 1-3 years- Rabies
Every 1-2 years- DHLPP

PRICE OF CANINE VACCINES IN NIGERIA
As said earlier, the prices of canine vaccines vary based on several factors such as the brand, location etc. But generally from experience and market survey. The vaccination regimen is usually varies around the amount below;
a) DHLPP Vaccine- 6,000 (Price may vary based on brand or location)
b) Anti Rabies Vaccine- 6,000 (Price may vary based on brand or location)
c) Dewormer- 3,000 (Price may vary based on brand or location)
Some may sell as low as 4,000-6,000 but as said earlier it varies. It should be noted that the sales of vaccines is highly regulated and not for sale over the counter.

Good afternoon sir, and I'm really sorry for the late reply. The condition is quite unfortunate but in many cases has to do with the temperament of your dog which is usually genetic. Now it now depends on you the owner, the reason you got her. If you got her strictly for security purposes then I'll advice you to let her be. But if you got her for breeding purposes then you may have to get another dog to be her companion perhaps this may ease her temperament (this is speculative) or I'll have to prescribe some medications for you that would calm her down especially during mating but at the end you'll still need to get another dog with a better temperament, I hope this helps!!

Hello good evening... please I want to know what causes false pregnancies in bitches and if it can be treated or prevented.. my bitch has had 2 false pregnancies in her last two breeding..

For the pregnant dog, its quite safe depending on the term of pregnancy provided its not an ivermectin sensitive breed, for the nursing dog, I'll personally advice you to be patient a little bit and let the pups be weaned because some residues of these drugs find their way into the milk. My GSD poo is not firm. She is 19 weeks. Been feeding her bingo, indomie and golden more before. But lately changed to only rice and golden moore with milk.
She has been dewormed also but no significant change
What can i do? Can u also recommend a feed?

Good morning sir, I'm sorry we don't do that here on this thread, it is unethical and illegal. I'll suggest you take your dog to the nearest vet clinic were your dog would be properly examined and appropriate medication prescribed. I hope this helps.

I'll advice that, we should be patient a bit, by the way, have you tried examining the area just to be sure everything is okay around there? If all is well, then we should be patient a bit. But if still there are no changes, we would know the next step to take.

I'm so sorry for the delay, before I recommend anything, its better we know the root cause of the problem if there is any? Also I'll like to know the kind of milk, how often you feed your dog, if you noticed any other sign and lastly the dewormer you used. All these information would guide me in identifying what could be wrong before recommendations.

Everything is okay from what I can see, theres a little bit of a thicker cartilage that if held the ESR would stand but without outside support it's just down

Okay then, there is no cause for alarm. Personally, I'll advice we watch till when your dog is 6 months old, if by 6 months and still no progress, then we will explore other alternatives. It should be noted that occasionally one ear may stand before the other and even within the GSD breed, some may have erect ears as early as 10 weeks while some as late as 5-6 months. Hence provided your dog is generally fine, no pain no discharge, I'll suggest we give it an extra month. Meanwhile I'll further advice you give calcium supplement while we explore ear taping but that should be done when your dog has finished teething I hope this helps
