Even though our own government is clueless, I'll still commend them for not involving external forces or Mercenaries. No matter the promises they may make, it doesn't usually end well for the hosts, and they usually don't always want to leave in a hurry. They end up turning you country to military testing sites for their new weapons and training grounds for their latest military units and even steal your resources as well all in the name of fighting insurgency for you. The fact that Nigeria hasn't asked for help from the west and allowing them to set up shop like they do in other countries like Mali, CAR, Somalia etc is what is probably pissing of the USA and they always frustrate our efforts in getting weapons before Trump came into power.

I'm not a fan of Buhari but cancelling the contracts of those mercenaries when he came him in 2015 was one decision I'll always applaud him for, no matter how it might look politically.

The mistake we all make is that border security belongs to an entirely different ministry not under the ministry of defense or police. It is not their responsibility. It lies with the Ministry of interior and the mandate given to the minister and comptroller general of customs (a retired military officer) isn't border security but generation of revenue. If the government is serious, it will take less than a year to fully secure the borders.

The Nigerian police is under the ministry of interior.

Don't we have other retired and very competent officers from the MOPOL,IRT,SARS,SWAT and other special police department that can head this our so called Border forces .

Instead of creating another security unit, A border police unit can be establish in the Nigerian police.

It took the threat of losing the 2015 election for Jonathan to order the largest offensive against Bokoharam yet, he found a way to get over $2 billion to equip the military even though majority of the the money was used for other selfish reasons . Immediately after the election, everything returned back to status quo cause he wasn't affected anymore. Trust me if the chances of Buhari wining the 2019 election was largely dependent on defeating Bokoharam, trust me, the insurgency would have been history.
It is not lack of capability. Even though we don't have the weapons we would love to operate, we can still manage with the ones we have. The 2014/2015 offensive was with even lesser capabilities and equipment.

Simply put, there is no pressure on this administration to end insurgency in Nigeria...... The other forms of insecurity are entirely different topics.
