No one is defaming no one. You refuse to pay your loan means u have a dubious character.
You talk about taking a legal route, not all company's are like banks that can afford to, other companies try to minimise cost and going through that route truncates that aim.

The banks you glorify are worst, they collect collateral, and God help you when you don't pay up your loan on time.

To each his own, like I said, borrow if you're sure you can pay back. If not, you take what you see.

Take care.
Did u read anywhere the op said he refused to pay?

As a public servant or salary earner, what if one is not being paid on time due to strike or salary delay , at times some people don't receive payments due to some other reasons for months, and you ain't able to meet up with repayments and they start their useless harassment, how will you feel ?? The truth is that sokoloan are the most useless fintech operators ,they employ people without certificates, and they lack strategy and customer relations..one day they will be a scapegoat of having to pay someone heavily by a law suit and they will fold up patapata..

Well, I was once in a similar position where I was about to default. I humbled myself, took a loan from elsewhere, and paid back partially then, then paid back in full two days later when the salary came in.

Refusing to pay and not paying in the due date alongside the days of grace given is taken as one thing. This has gone beyond what d OP said. I'm said it in a general context especially to loan defaulters crying foul.

brother I feel your pain. This exactly what they did to my colleague at work. It was just 10k and this criminal when ahead to message all his contact including our boss. The damage was too much to bear, he almost lost his job and trust. But on a serious note I have been thinking from that day that something has to be done, maybe forward this cruel incident to the appropriate authorities.

You people like telling one-sided stories.

Deep in his heart your colleague actually had no real intention of repaying the loan.

So you want them to ignore all the people owing 10K...do you have any idea how much that will be and the loss it will cause them?

Well, the thing is, if you read the terms and conditions of the loan app...they warn you in bold letters that if you don't pay up, after some time, they will start sending messages to your contacts.

It is enough to scare some people.
noted bro, but people don't bother about the long epistles, do you for example when installing a software on ur laptop read all the agreement? But u still go ahead to say u did. The tiny details are mostly ignored.. Thanks for the clarification anyway

You are right...but in this case, regarding loan apps, I ended up reading the FAQ and then the T and C one time when I had an unrelated issue with one of the apps (Carbon it was)..and that's where I came across the 'We will contact your contacts bit'....

What many people don't know is that no company will borrow you one kobo without providing any means of guarantor. Your contact is the guarantor these loan companies relies on if you default. While registering for loan, you have grant them permission to access your contact remotely without you knowing. Unfortunately, many people won't read service agreements because it used to be boring. They have confidence that if you default, one of your contacts will offer to help as soon as they got the intimidating message. This approach is a concept in psychology.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. I work at Some Loan and it is their policy to send those messages to a loan defaulter's contact.
They employ a lot of people and just like banks or other institutions that gives a target, there are bound to be employees who tend to be very harsh on customers in a bid to get them pay up their loan.
It's unlikely you'll get your demand for messages to be sent to your contacts to notify them that your debt has been paid, I'll advise you let it go, no matter how painful it is.

Once again, I'm sorry about your experience and for others who have experienced this.
My friend nothing do you!
If the op had paid his loan when due will this nonsense story have happened?
Nigerians have a poor loan payment culture. You take money and refuse to pay and start giving silly excuses. Loan companies offer me money and I take just what I need and have money I am expecting to pay back. But our people will take money with no expected income to pay. I read someone complain about the high interest rate. Why do you think that is? Abi dont you know that countries with loan default rate makes lending more expensive? The op and his likes make the interest rate high for the rest of us.
You take sokoloan money and do not pay, what do you expect them to tell investors when their money is due? Don't you know it us people like me and you that fix money for 1, 6, 12 months in those loan companies? Will the company tell you or me that invested fix deposit that one lagbaja did not pay and they are chasing him around?.
The op should be embarrassed for himself rather.
This is Nigeria, you agreed to the terms of the loans where in you gave then acess to your contacts on your phone. Read the terms, you also agreed to text messages to be sent to your contacts with no apologies.
I deal will them once in a while and I have no issues.
My last manager took such loans from 2 different companies. How I knew was because they called me. To pay him his salary he will give me his wife's account saying he owes and did not want them to take the money. August 2019 till March 2020 he left my employ, he never paid.

It's always good to check and double facts and experience from people who have done business with any one or organization before getting involved with them.
Yours was even good because the loans was due and you didn't meet up on time. Mine was 5hours above the due date and even when I was in the bank doing the transaction they have already sent malicious messages to my contacts say that I was a wanted criminal who took huge loans and ran away.
I know of guy who also lost a job opportunity because of the message they sent to the man who was supposed to interview the guy. They are pathetic lots.

Oops, I never knew we were much!

bro shey u have paid? Get the terms and conditions read through check the part that talks about failure to pay loan, read and understand. Bro sue their broke ass. Palm credit is too legit. I once borrowed 15k and I needed to pay from my Eco Bank but service was bad I couldn't transfer to my UBA which is automatically connected to Palm Credit. They sent a message to remind me to pay. I was just lackadaisical about paying but I knew definitely I will pay. 5k was sent to my UBA them collect am sharperly remaining 11k but notwithstanding I sent the money as I got network to my UBA after over 60hrs no issues I paid no disgrace just normal reminder. For that I give them 6 Stars. Dont stress urself about those Soko bastards. They don't have guts to run a company. Sorry but ensure they tender apology on national daily and send a correction message to ur contacts

Thanks, I appreciate.
