You are very much on point @OP, this coming year I have decided to go into business after losing my job and I currently have like #800k, I want to go into foodstuffs buying and selling from other places to Lagos.. But the only obstacle I have now is how to get those products from other states at good prices.. Still making my research though and asking people around but only few are cooperating, foodstuffs like yam, rice, beans, garri, plantain, onions, palm oil, groundnut oil etc..

Person can't just relocate nau. Relocation comes with lot of extra costs. Where I stay here now costs me 96k per annum but if I were to relocate to... Say Abuja or lagos or enugu, same house will cost 300-500k per annum to rent. I will still pay high NEPA bill on top

Like I said, I don't have that kind of money. Like I said, if I have 250k, I'll use it to invest in alternative power and no nepa bill

Lastly nothing is stable in nigeria. When I started, power supply was about 8 hours daily. After the recent grid collapses, only about 3 hours in the night. Ah area can have stable power supply now, next 6 months, the DISCO won't supply that area well again.

So alternative power supply is the way you go
I can help you get the alternative power (Solar panels system)

You can never be wealthy living on just salary in this country... starting and owning a business that is legal is the way forward... TAKE the RISK and ESCAPE poverty.

Well, I dont really know. I really want to have another source of income before leaping out. So far, the little investment that I have made didnt stand. And the capital burnt out. Hopefully this coming year if the country remain fairly stable, I will leap out cos there is another investment that am targeting. Just trying to raise the capital required.
Pray our law makers successfully pass the cannabis bill into law. The world pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies will focus their attentions on Nigeria. Everybody would become cannabis farmer because the income potentials are huge. It would be bigger than the cocoa and groundnut or palm oil revolution of the pre independence era.

OP, you have done a wonderful job by dishing out Free but valuable and and information capable of transforming lives.
In this life, I have come to understand that it's the little overlooked , neglected and ignored information or advice keep people poor and make others successful. There's a saying that the difference between the rich and poor is the quality/ quantity of information at their disposal.
I work and own a biz too and I can relate well with your write up.
I didn't waste much time when I got the govt jobs before venturing into biz and I'm very happy today .
Whether salary cap message or not, we keep on waxing strong cos I believe my destiny does not like in the hands of govt. I do attend paid and free biz seminars, listen to biz talks and buy ebooks on biz mgt but believe me, there's nothing different between the seminar contents and what OP is saying.

When I spot someone speaking from experience rather than well-being researched content, I know.
So, let's appreciate the op. It's not easy. That's why most Nigerians doubt anything Free.

Wonder why an average Nigerian would continue to stick by one source of income policy.

2020 has opened my eyes to something better. I lost alot of money earlier due to Covid but now I am grateful to God.

my fellow Nairalanders, open your eyes and listen carefully. Work smart and not hard.

A family does well financially when one is an income earner while the other owns a business. OP if you were married trust me you will do twice as better. That's if you marry the right woman.
Hmmm. Thank you guys for this insightful write up and comments. I'm a professional with a very busy schedule, has been able to save some cash and considering sending my wife who is highly entrepreneurial ( but I have been on her neck to do her masters programs ) to go learn animal feeds and production so we can put our 5acres of land to profitable use . The write up has gingered me , I have to proceed as planed . Thanks Alterboy

Hello! don't make the mistake I made.
1. if it means to go and sell for someone for 1 yr just to understand the business
2. You will meet people and understand the measuring style to make abnormal profit
3. They will not cooperate until you do 1

OP, I am in same predicament with you, i work 7am -5pm, while on the job I tried two different business, first business I invested N600k, the money went as lost, mind you I earn N60k per month , second business, I collected loan from other sources with my little savings everything amounting into N1m, i invested into second business and it went into the drain, I felt suicidal, but thank God for God, along the line, I discovered that good and successful business are not neccessrily the kind of business you invest millions of naira starting. I learnt Laundry business, learnt every other businesses l can do at the comfort of my seat in the office, I do company registration, Seal, News publication, run advert etc. I told my self, that I will give my self a target and when I achieved that goal before talking of resigning, The goals has been achieved working of saving additional capital, thought really business capital, cos my nature of business dies not really need much capital but skills which I already have.
