Hmmm. Thank you guys for this insightful write up and comments. I'm a professional with a very busy schedule, has been able to save some cash and considering sending my wife who is highly entrepreneurial ( but I have been on her neck to do her masters programs ) to go learn animal feeds and production so we can put our 5acres of land to profitable use . The write up has gingered me , I have to proceed as planed . Thanks Alterboy

Dear Sir,

Please don't push her into a business she doesn't have passion for. since she u highly enterpreneurial, let her do the business if her choice.

We all attended University in our family apart from my elder sister she refused to go to university saying the end product is still money.

I am not trying to boast o! today she is the wealthiest is the whole family (immediate and extended). She has ONLY SSCE even the result she doesn't have Mathematics and English.

Well, I dont really know. I really want to have another source of income before leaping out. So far, the little investment that I have made didnt stand. And the capital burnt out. Hopefully this coming year if the country remain fairly stable, I will leap out cos there is another investment that am targeting. Just trying to raise the capital required.
How much capital are we talking about?

You are very much on point @OP, this coming year I have decided to go into business after losing my job and I currently have like #800k, I want to go into foodstuffs buying and selling from other places to Lagos.. But the only obstacle I have now is how to get those products from other states at good prices.. Still making my research though and asking people around but only few are cooperating, foodstuffs like yam, rice, beans, garri, plantain, onions, palm oil, groundnut oil etc..

Check the Agriculture thread. You'll get loads of information on your concerns.

Your mom is the best person to meet to educate &, enlighten you in the business, if possible open the shop let her manage it because if her experience but ensure you learn. We learn everyday don't stop learning.

The business you about to delve into is a business that can make you a silent millionaire.

Mine happens like 8 years ago, one thing in life is showing consistency in all we do, got married to a very stingy man that refused to assist me, tried all I could do back then, one thin I promised myself was not to work under anybody, who would want to employ me then with just waec result.
Ventured into selling Ok bags shoes, clothes etc, sold liquid wash and so many petty stuff but the money was not coming in, reason why my OK business did not yield profit was that I started it with a capital of 12k, I was nursing 3 babies at then, when ever I see what will be nice on my kids and even myself, I don't sell, I keep for our usage, the business as at then was somehow stressful, because I don't have a shop, I hawk this clothes mostly couple with my 3 kids, Oga was not ready to give me even ₦20. He sees every reasons not to give me, funny aspect of it was that he doesn't want me to do anything, all he wanted was for me to sit at home 24/7.
It wasn't funny back then, but to God be the Glory my life is a testimony.

Since he asked me to sit at home all through as a good wife, I had to obey and use my brain. I organized monthly contribution of 15k foe 12 people from January to December, I don't have I dime of my own, but I madee sure I picked January, February and March.
I collected forJanuary ,total amount was supposed to be 180k, but picked for 3months and was not having any source, so that made the money 135k.
I went to buy a new bajaj motorcycle, gave it for higher for 130k with a returning fee of 5k weekly, at the end of February, I collected the 2nd bought the 2nd machine and also collected for March and bought the third byke.
My monthly earning from the 3 byke became 60k monthly, by April and the rest of the months, I was able to pay other people collecting and still have extra 15k of my own, that was the beginning of my breakthrough.

If you're following up let me know so I can continue

My brother thank u for this great analysis.
U indeed took ur time to point at most important parts of various or suggestive businesses one can venture into most especially for our vibrant young men and women.

I shall also like to advice u because it seems u have this fear of quitting ur job just like everyone would do including me. I was a also a banker like u and I did face what u going through today and when I discovered the long way I was going to ply just for working for one man,I quitted and pursued my dreams which is lending money to businesses and that has worked for me and it is still working out for me.

Give yourself a target on when to leave to pursue ur dream, and u have to do it with a very strong conviction that u are going to make it.

U may not need everyone but few clients that have proven to be honest and trust worthy would turn such a business around for u. That is one thing I learnt while working as a banker in the same north. I started with a minimal Capital of N300k which I have turned around to close to 40million in 8 years.

This year alone I was able to rake in 12.6million just as interest on my capital. Just like u said, business do grow little by little and with years comes in progress and expansion.

Think about this as I wish u the best come 2021.

I have always been biz inclined and had all these ideas like you. My colleagues even come to meet me for biz and investment ideas. However i was stalling till covid came and we had to be disengaged. Thats when i began implementing my ideas. At first it was difficult. Hiwever as time went things improved. I heard they (former company) are calling back with reduced salary. I've told them im not coming back. My investments are working for me.

Nice write up. The fact is that if you want wealth in a legitimate way, do business. If you want to be on an average work for government and if you want to be poor, work for a private organization. However, business takes commitment. Op, you are not committed to your business .. A good businessman should understand that nothing lasts forever, and he/she always projects towards unforseen circumstances.

Wow, experience taught you, lol.. an 24yrs and i will tell you a path of my story;

my senior colleagues back then in school , when i was in yr2, they were in yr5, very bright students first class and second class candidates graduated, served and luckily as the said became bankers and civil servants. they were paid below 80k monthly and there descriptions are mon-fri, 8am-5pm (remember 1hr to prepare and go to work, 1hr to roundup and go home) which makes the description 7am to 6pm, meanwhile we all have basic bills to pay,.. e.g phone sub, dstv sub, transportation, girlfriend hair, sub and upkeep (very good girl), stock kitchen, save for rent, show popsy, Mumsy, kidbro love, drink bottles of beer e.t.c these are necessary bills for a normal person, all with 80k ooo, we all know its impossible, no hope of pension and salary increments even in 5yrs..

I foresaw poverty and starvation amongst government workers, bankers, just because of porous leadership. NB: The got everything RIGHT, the read there books, passed there exams, graduated, served there nonsense country, got the best available JOB, still NOTHING.

Meanwhile, i decided to venture into PHYSIOTHERAPY i found it prospective, i was a proffesional kickboxer for 3yrs, and was always massaged by a south african massuese after trainings and competitions, i learnt a little unfortunately i stopped fighting in 2018 because its payment is dependent on our wicked governmental system, i dug deep into PHYSIOTHERAPY and learnt rehabilitative therapies, rejuvenating therapies, relaxation therapies, sculptural therapies (specific muscles builds with workouts and massages), sensational therapies, chiropractic treatment, exercises etc and proffesionally started massaging CVA PATIENTS using rehabilitative therapy, DEPRESSION AND STRESS using relaxation/sensational therapies, LOWER BACK PAIN with chiropractic treatments, and i earn more than 500k monthly from hospitals, home services, gyms, hotels e.t.c just after graduating with 3rd class from uniport (2018) i haven't served sef..
