My dad is similar to what you described.
Tho the only time he bothers himself with cooking is when my mum and I are not around.
Even at that it's just to warm soup or stew kept for him and make eba or boil rice.

Knowing how to cook and enjoying it are two different things.

I would have asked how they managed to survive in the hostel/ off campus while studying... but never mind.. I remembered there were "nice" ladies that cooks for boys those days... especially those fellowship "brothers"

I was trained to be like that. At home we boys had to go to farm to work hard. The girls had to do all house chores. My father must not see me in the kitchen. When I was in school I cooked and before marriage. Now I dont like to cook at all.

I love cooking cos I was taught by my caterer mom.
I like cooking my own meals and I hardly eat other people dishes.
