And why is that?

Mostly for a lot of reasons but mainly because a regular desktop manager is more flexible and requires little config compared to a tilling manager

Sometimes I get segmentation fault for no reason. Though I think it's cause my memory is too low. And even on Ubuntu if I'm not using the default browser tabs crash every 2-3 minutes

Your RAM might be giving up gradually. You might want to change it soon.

I just installed Linux mint for the first time. Thanks to pcguru1 for for the giude link he provided. I still also have windows and can dual but both mint and windows. Most importantly, I think Linux will help me in my data recovery business as it reads more files on a corrupt/damaged disk than windows.

Am loving the experience so far and might even completely switch to it full time some day

Ok, a desktop drive. If u have a SATA to USB cable, plug in in and check if it's readable.

If there was a physical damage, It might make some sounds. Try to identify the kinda sound it makes.

Nothing is wrong with the drive. The connector got broken, that's why am asking if you can recover the file from it?
Re: Ubuntu Linux by Gargoylesmiles(m): 5:45am On Jan 04, 2021
Not to sound pessimistic but I will say everything is wrong with the drive if the connector is broken since the connector is the gateway to your data in the drive. Will like to know how you solve this if & when you do. All the best.

Check out Ubuntu, Deepin and Elementary OS and decide which one to start your Linux journey with.
This is only the beginning so be ready to explore more in the future.

If I were to give advice to someone coming from a Windows environment these days, I'd say go with Mint until you get used to it. My complaint about Mint is that it appears to be a mainly hobbyist operation, so using it long term may not be sustainable. But it is excellent as a base to get introduced into the Linux ecosystem.

Another very good one is Linux Lite.

For me, I use Pop!OS these days, and I'm really loving it.

So which one would you suggest I go for? Already installed Linux Mint but it looks plain to me
