RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

Press Release

The Ministry of Education wishes to announce that, with the approval of His Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike, the school calendar published in August, 2020 stands. Accordingly, both public and private schools in the State are hereby reminded that schools will resume on 4th January, 2021 for normal academic activities.

Schools are to maintain all COVID-19 Protocols, including the wearing of face masks, use of hand sanitizers and staggered classes/ morning and afternoon sessions in order to avoid overcrowding.

The Ministry wishes all pupils, students, parents and guardians the very best of the year.

This is a welcome development. I hope Osun State Government will follow suit. They don't need to wait for Lagos State before taking their own decisions. I've suffered enough in this pandemic.

This development comes with a mixed feelings, a lots of people traveled believing schools will be reopening on 18th January and now, he has insisted on opening tomorrow as earlier scheduled before threatening to lockdown the state this January, as a result of that people decided to travel hoping that they may return on or before 18th with the hope of taking their time to plan for schools resumption towards the end of January....

That's the way to go. Government shouldn't rush or be rushed into another lockdown.

Enforce the compliance to safety protocols and not another lockdown.
