They were all travelling to Aba in Abia state when the gunmen attacked them along Lokoja-Okene expressway...

Unknown gunmen in Kogi state have kidnapped 18 traders from Kano state who were on a commercial journey to Abia state.

The victims, all from the popular Kantin Kwari textile market, were traveling to Aba in Abia state to buy goods when their vehicle was attacked by the gunmen and they were taken to the bush.

Daily Trust gathered that the traders left Kano on Sunday with the intention of reaching Aba the following day but met their fate before getting there.

The Managing Director of Kantin Kwari Market Management Board, Alhaji Abba Bello confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.

According to him, "The kidnapped traders are 18, but we have so far confirmed the names of 12, but we suspect that their number could reach 18.

“They were all traveling to Aba in Abia state when the gunmen attacked them along Lokoja-Okene expressway in Kogi state.

“People are saying the victims are up to 20 or even more, but from what we can confirm so far, they are 18,”
Alhaji Bello added.

On whether the kidnappers have so far contacted their families for ransom, the MD said he has not officially gotten the information.

However, other sources have reported that the abductors have earlier demanded N50million before they later agreed to collect N27million from their families as ransom.

Traders from Kantin Kwari market, mostly those running small-scale businesses usually travel by road to buy ‘Made in Aba’ yards from Aba, Abia’s commercial city.

Can't we use drones to monitor our forests so as to apprehend these kidnappers and rescue victims? Or can't the country afford them? With all these daily kidnapping news, Nigeria is becoming an embarrassment to the black race. Nonsense

It still beats my imagination how these gunmen kidnap with impunity and there is nothing our military and police can do about it. When will PMB demonstrate selfless leadership by sacking the present service chiefs, inspector general of police and head of DSS for these obvious security failures?

Let us call a spade a spade, PMB's failure to be proactive and assertive as Commander in Chief is responsible for Nigeria's security challenge

You are calling on someone that doesn't probably doesn't know that he is a president, that is being fronted as a president while others are taking decisions,to be selfless.
U people still don't grasp that we are in all intents and purposes in the late YarAdua dying days, when he was being fronted as still the president, while effectively dead. The only difference here is that Buhari is alive, but almost definitely senile.

That's the result when both the government and citizens have lost focus of what is most important.

Look at Nigerians spending so much energy on SMAN and SWAN and irrelevant issues, while the most important things are ignored.

We're still far.

Dividends of a sham democracy... Every region will surely have a feel of it, it's only a matter of time.

Since the best thing a nation of 200M people can come up with as their president is a braindead vegetable.

Let's keep voting in useless people into office and enjoy the burnt of it for the rest of their tenure.

What led to the formation of Bakassi boys in Aba in 1999 was when members of Mafu group were constantly robbing traders that are coming to Aba.

It caused severe hardship of the traders in Aba especially the shoe makers in Bakassi and one day they decided to take laws into their hands and secure their business.

Traders coming from the North to Aba are now being kidnapped.

These kidnappers are becoming something else.

If it's when Aba was Aba, Aba boys won't mind going to Kogi to join and rescue their customers.

I know some fools will just complain and will never proffer solution.

spend 20% of the time complaining and 80% drumming up solution.

that is balance.

kidnapping is not the problem, it is a symptom of the problem.

a symptom of weakened community
symptom of poor parenting
symptom of money conscious/ worshiping society
a society that lacks accountability on how u made it.

bad leadership,
