Getting a website done, after the person delivers your site to you, how do you prevent them from sneaking into your website without your permission

I keep feeling like even after changing password, the developer go still saying how to sneak in to come sabotage wetin him give you to make more money from me with malware issues.

I honestly need help ....programmera in the house

After the developer finished the job , he is expected to give you the cpanel logins and the email logins used in registering the domain and host which you are expected to change almost immediately.
You can ask any questions should there be any, I will gladly shed more light

There's no way you can lock the original programmer out of the domain but if you settle him with good money I see no reason why he would want to compromise your app cool

1. If the developer hosts your website then you should get your own hosting account and transfer your website over.
2. If the developer registered the domain of your website for you then you should also transfer it over to a different domain registrar where you own an account.
3. Change all your passwords.

Any competent programmer must have installed a backdoor to the application, so technically, there's no way you can lock him out of the environment. Even if you change the hosting, domain name, passwords etc

If you like relocate your domain to heaven, you can't lock a programmer out of the application he built.

Personally, what I do; I include a large library in the application and embed the backdoor in the library. The probability of discovering the security loophole is almost zero.
Its even sweeter when working with a framework wink

Or I can create an API on my own portal and configure a very useful function on your portal to work with the API. I attack your app with the API cool

Hello, it is normal for your developer to hand over every details to you after the job is completed.

However, since you are not tech savvy, it is important that you get an established Web designer/developer so that you can quickly reach out to them to make certain changes or updates, where necessary. Most times, this is periodic.

Being skeptical with a developer is normal but it would seem weird to see a developer sneak into your website.

Should you need a trusted hand, you can reach out. We currently manage 8 of our clients websites.

Thank you all for your responses. Its quite a lot to take in.

After getting the cpanels and changing the password like you suggested.

What happens to this theory of using API to attack APIs?

Changing domain name?

Does it mean I should basically close my eye and not focus on the money and just go for established developers?

Hi, first of all, remove that thought from your mind, except you don't even trust yourself to start with. If you are very good to your developer, trust me he/she won't have any reason to disrupt the service he/she provided him/herself. Being good doesn't have to be monetary.
I manage an enterprise application and website of firms that i'm very sure is very much important than that your website, even they do not exhibit this kind of fear. The advantages in reality, supersedes the disadvantages. No sane developer has that time to break what he built even when there is no pay. No knowledge is a waste and all we want is to keep improving and developing our portfolio.

Plenty people day owe me and their project is still online. Money will come and go, people won't if you are shady and wicked as an IT services provider.

But trust me, some Nigerian clients are overbearing. But understanding them and teaching them these tech terms will save you a whole lot of time. Most times i refer them out to other developers just to avoid problem.
