BS the concluding part.

Part 3 (post op/recovery)

I was transferred from the wheeled bed to the bed in the recovery room where my dh and DD (sleeping)  were waiting for me and the first thing I did was reach for my phone to take pictures. grin grin I was wondering why she was so tiny when the previous day scan put EFW at 2.9kg, alas she weighed 2.5kg..

The nurse put the leg compression machine  on my legs to help blood circulation and prevent blood clot.

When my DD woke up the nurses raised the headboard of the bed to put me in a slightly sitting position and helped with latching the baby on my breast.
My DD woke up about 3 times to feed and each time they had to raise and lower the headboard but after the last time I vomited due to the up and down movements.
I tried to sleep a bit but I was very thirsty..thankfully after some hours they brought me a tiny cup of warm water and increased the quantity when they saw i tolerated the water.

Soon afterwards I started feeling sensation returning to my legs, I was able to wriggle my toes. 6hrs after the surgery I was able to move back up to my admission room. But the hospital didn't have elevators so I had to walk upstairs (I had noticed this on my first hospital visit and I queried the gyne about having to walk up the stairs so soon after surgery, she assured me that although the ambulation is assisted it was a necessary step in recovery process).
I got off the bed and stood upright and felt no pain at all ( after my Myomectomy I couldn't stand upright for almost 1week due pain), I was happy but when I mentioned it to the nurse she said the anesthesia was still working that's why I didn't feel pain.
The walk up the stairs was uncomfortable because I had the catheter in and a pad between my legs but without panties lol. But there wasn't any pain at all.

**I'm officially too tired to give details at this point so id summarise **
I was given a flask of tea to drink and pap for dinner. (Pap tasted like ice cream cos I was starving at that point).
The gyne encouraged me to take lots of fluid (I drank only warm water) to help the healing and to ensure I empty my bladder before it gets full so it doesn't disturb the uterus from returning to its postion...she asked about my pain level and bleeding, checked the catheter bag and was satisfied with the quantity of pee in it.
Next morning Catheter was removed, nurse gave me a sponge bath, breakfast and lunch were still pap (by this time I was seeing stars already)...apparently the nurses were supposed to have informed the kitchen to change my meals to solid but they didn't...complained to the doctor and that was sorted....bleeding had reduced...pediatrician diagnosed my baby of jaundice (checked her skin with the bilirubinometer and the level was 9) and instructed I feed her every 2hrs..

One of the times I feeding her I leaned to one side and I couldn't move cos the stomach pain was out of this world. I couldn't reach the nurses call button and my DH wasn't in the room..I had to stay that way until thankfully the doctors came in. She examined me and said it was the fibroids degenerating (that sh*t was painful) and they upped my pain medication.

Next day I passed my first bowel movement, I made sure I had taken gallons of water the previous day and in the morning and I didn't strain at all. Straining to poop after CS is another type of pain you don't want for yourself. *Also sneezing, coughing and laughing is equally painful...you'd have to hold your incision area to reduce the pressure/pain.

Baby's bilirubin level increased to 12....she's same blood type as me so it wasn't a blood type mismatch...they drew her blood for further investigation.
The plaster over my incision site was removed and the doctor said it was healing beautifully..the nurse cleaned with Methylated spirit and showed my DH what to do cos he's the one that'll clean when we're home. We were instructed to clean the site with spirit 6-8 times a day. By evening they had to put the plaster back on cos my still very big tummy was covering the incision area and making it damp. The plan was to leave the plaster on for 3 days when I get home and start cleaning on the 4th day.

My vitals were good, blood pressure good pcv 36% and I was discharged to go home....but my baby wasn't so we spent an extra day. I was concerned about the quantity of milk my LO was getting so I opened the Nan1 I had  and after trying to feed with spoon and cup I decided that level of suffering wasn't for me. So to be sure I was getting enough milk, I used a breastpump and expressed breastmilk and I was satisfied with the quantity so I continued breastfeeding only.

Next day her blood was tested again and we were discharged to go home with the instruction to feed every 2 hours, keep her in a brightly lit room (not directly under sun o) and go for a follow up visit some days after.

Now we were home....being at home comes with its own challenges especially when you have an older kid (and in my case an elderly MIL that needs taking care of too)..sometimes I forgot to eat or take my meds...then after the plaster was taken off, remembering to grab either my DH or nanny to clean the wound.  I was sweating a LOT! So in between the 2 hr methylated spirit cleaning time I still had to occasionally pat the incision site dry. I also kept drinking lots of warm water and it helped reduce my stomach a lot!

The 'sleep when baby is sleeping' advice  only works when you're in the hospital o grin, its a struggle when you're home. I started having swollen feet and elevated blood pressure so I had to force myself to shun everything else and sleep when my LO's sleeping.
Days later we went for follow up and the jaundice was ruled as physiological jaundice so no intervention was required.

Fast forward to my 2 week (almost 3 weeks) post-ops visit and my gyne said my incision site healed beautifully and I was given the go-ahead to resume bathing again. But my uterus hadn't fully returned to its proper position and its still measuring 16weeks because of the fibroids..its making my tummy look a bit big but I'm not worried because I've achieved a slate flat tummy after CS before and id work towards it after our exclusive 6months ends.

2 items I'm really glad I took to the hospital were my manual breastpump and a themos water bottle. I didn't have to start looking for where to plug electric pump...that pumping is essential especially for FTMs to help the milk start flowing well...and I always had warm water to drink by my bedside.

We are now 6 weeks and both doing absolutely great.

Comparing both my deliveries (Abroad and Nigeria), the major difference is the aftercare and the stress of cleaning the incision site with spirit to avoid infection. And this is because of the humidity in our region and the air is sort of dirty which isn't at the control of our medical team.

As I officially hang my boots, I thank God for remembering me in my time as a TTC and blessing me with kids in the order I wanted. I pray that the good Lord also remembers our mothers still in the waiting room, please dry their tears and bless them to their hearts desires.

Goodafternoon mums and pregnant husbands

BACK TO MY STORY
cont...

When I slept and woke up , I had a mild headache and so I told DH. He fixed something and we ate thereafter I went back to sleep. On the 12th of December which was the next day happened to be Shiloh Impactation Service and since we had been connecting online from the beginning I told hubby that we should go to the church and fellowship with other people. We got ready and left home at 6 am.
In the church Bishop was already preaching and we were paying attention, soon Bishop Oyedepo started giving prophesies... Each time I stood up to grab the prophetic word grin there was a particular prophecy I embraced , Bishop said in quote “you will never be admitted in the hospital , the only time you will do is to put to birth” I said a big Amen. Later, they started singing and all of a sudden I felt some sort of weakness so I sat down. While I was sitting, o felt a tightening in my chest again so I started turning on the chair, I couldn’t breathe! I held on to my husband and he kept on telling me that I would be fine. After a while I got better and we decided to go home cos I felt I wanted to sleep.
On getting home I went straight to bed, it wasn’t up to 30minutes I started having a serious headache, I didn’t even notice my temperature was very high ,it was DH that came and touched me then he screamed. He told me to get up so we go to the hospital and I told him I will be fine, I was just prophesying to my self and speaking that I am fine and that there is no room for sickness in my body. This was around after 12pm. DH came to check on me much later and he confirmed that my temperature had dropped, he told me to keep my mantle on my stomach and I obeyed and then slept off again.
I woke up around past 3 pm and my temperature was crazily high, I jumped up from the bed cos I had a feeling that something wasn’t right , I went and looked for DH only to find him in the toilet. I told him that we have to go to the hospital. He complained of how he begged me initially for us to go and right now I would make him miss his Liverpool match slated for 5pm. He got out and went to the dressing room and I joined him to wear something to the hospital.
We got to the hospital and the nurse got my card and brought out my file, next thing was to check my vitals ( BP, weight, heart beat rate and temperature) . I noticed the worry on the nurse’ face then I asked her if all was ok and she replied that my heart beat rate was very fast and my blood pressure was low,I was in my 21 or 22weeks then. She took my file to see the doctor and DH and I were invited into the consultation room. The doctor opened my file and was like “Are you pregnant “? I said yes, He looked at the vitals report and was like “madam ,Do you have have a heart problem “? ....DH and I looked at each other in shock and I replied “No”, he told me to state how I was feeling and while I was stating the symptoms I was having he continued checking my file and was like “madam, I will have to admit you and you will be given blood transfusion. I started binding and casting, I told him it’s not my portion grin. He said ok, he told me to go to the lab and stated the test I should conduct.
We were waiting for the test results while DH and I were gisting, my husband was like why would that doctor ask if you have a heart problem, is he high We just laughed and I still declared that Papa already said no hospital until delivery date. The doctor soon walked past us from his office and went to the pharmacy, we started hearing loud voices . He came out of the pharmacy in anger and started shouting that he won’t take that rubbish , he entered his office picked his bag and stormed out of the hospital. DH and I were like “maybe God made him leave so we could meet another doctor that will prescribe drugs and tell me to go home”....lol
Soon the test result was out and we paid 8500 for the test. We took the result and we met another doctor that came in after the other doctor stormed out in anger. She went through the test results and was like “ Madam, these results are not good. I have to admit you and you will receive blood transfusion, I was like why She said your record shows you were here few weeks ago for malaria and now you have same with typhoid plus my PCV was 22% . She said the tightening I was feeling in my chest was because of insufficient oxygen as a result of low PCV . DH said I should be admitted immediately and then few minutes later I was taken to the ward.

In the ward, I was given drip and much later DH went down to the lab to pay for the blood , soon a donor was contacted and blood was ready for transfusion. One of the nurses that is part of the Antenatal class came to my ward and was like “why am I here again in the most soothing but painful voice “ she was like have you not been taking your Pregnancy drugs?? I told her I have . She listed somethings I could take to build my PCV and told me to get mosquito net that it’s not good for a pregnant woman to be down with malaria. When she left, I found myself crying and kept feeling like I had failed in being a good mother to my baby, like I couldn’t even eat the right things just because I hated them. I promised myself to start eating right.
DH informed my MIL and she was so angry and stated that we would have called her before the transfusion, that she doesn’t buy the blood transfusion idea. She told DH list of food I should be consuming from that moment and so DH went out to buy some food . The next day, I was given another pant of blood making it two pants of blood . DH went to the market bought enough Vegetables and cow liver , went home prepared soup with it and brought it to me. I ate and I started feeling better . I started including vegetables in any food I ate with fruits in between. On the 3rd day I was discharged and asked to run another PCV test, result came out and my PCV had gone from 22% to 27% after 2 pants of blood transfusion.
I went back home and promised to make sure I eat well so my PCV will increase more before my Antenatal 2 weeks later cos the money we spent, was over a hundred thousand Naira for just those two times I spent in the hospital in December. I started taking squeezes vegetable juice and malt, eating liver , fish and vegetable soup. I cooked everything literally with vegetable including beans. When I went back to the hospital 2 weeks after, my PCV was at 31% and I know it has gone beyond that cos I have been eating right. Ever since I got back from the hospital, my baby has been kicking well, always turning and full of energy . Honestly, my second trimester was not funny but I have a great feeling that my third trimester which I just entered will be so smooth.

MY ADVICE TO FT MUMS
1. Endeavor to eat right cos you could be eating thrice a day yet your body isn’t getting any nutrients. Focus on food rich in Iron, protein and e.g vegetables, egg, fish, liver cos these will help in building your PCV and supply a good amount of oxygen to your baby in the womb.

2 . Study your body and watch for signs of weakness, loss of breathe , swollen foots and hands, discharge from your private parts . Go to the hospital and just see a Doctor cos prevention is better than cure. For the low BP I had, the Doctor stayed that its normal at a particular stage of pregnancy and that it will go back to normal before I put to birth or after so no cause for panic.

3. Try and have people around you as a pregnant FT mum cos you might need assistance of some sort or might be in a place of emergency .

4. Pregnant Husbands try and be of assistance to your wives cos there are times when your wife might not even be able to explain how uncomfortable they are cos it’s their FT and your help will go along way to sooth their pain and discomfort.

Honestly I thank God for my DH cos he has been the strength pushing me through. Constantly asking me what I want and getting it for me, tolerating my craze cos I do shout at times and get angry this period, comfort me when I cry for no reason and cook for us without complaining. He even reads about pregnancy and symptoms to expect at certain stages more than I do, he will screenshot and send to my WhatsApp and tell me to read . God will bless him for me.
I wish all mothers a safe, stress-free, smooth, soft and great delivery. May we continue to celebration more BS and for our TTC moms, May the blessings of conceiving and child-birth be yours in IJN
Thank you moderator for this thread, I have learnt a lot from it and I pray to share my BS with my bundle of Joy in April. Thanks for your audience.... I love you all

If you're in lagos go (send someone) to Alpha pharmacy in Ikeja.. they are the sole distributors of cyclogest hence their price will be a bit less.
Praying for your rainbow baby

Thank you a lot. But I'm in Abuja

Just found this thread recently and I must say I love the atmosphere here.

My wife is due in a few days...

EDD - February 1st.

So we are chilling for when LO (Team Pink) is ready to show up.

Kind of scared cos we don't know what to expect.

But we pray for a smooth delivery by God's grace.

Please pray for us.

I'd be sure to share our experience. ✌️

After over 24 hours labour, our baby girl finally came out.

I couldn't control my tears when I saw her come out of her mother.

I cried uncontrollably because my wife was in so much pain.

It almost felt like torture.

But thank God for a safe delivery.

DOB was on Saturday night.

Now, sleepless nights starts.

Does it get any easier? grin
