Samsung and Infinix are two smartphone companies with vastly different reputations. Whilst Samsung made their reputation from punching with the heavyweights of the industry, Infinix is more modest. Infinix caters more to the general public in terms of affordability and Samsung is seen as the more premium brand. In front of us today, we have the Samsung Galaxy A12 vs Infinix Hot 10.

The Samsung A series is a line up of budget friendly phones. The phones between A10 to A30 are mostly budget phones and the Samsung A12 is no exception. The Infinix Hot 10 however is a midranger and it is marketed as such. Both companies are rivals at the bottom end of the market and a lot of consumers may be a bit confused as to which is the better option, or which one provides the best value for the price offered.

Samsung Galaxy A12 vs Infinix Hot 10

Build
The phones are built with plastic. They both have a plastic frame and a plastic back. The A12 weighs a hefty 205g while the Hot 10 is slightly lighter at 204g.

Processors
The Infinix Hot 10 uses the Mediatek Helio G70. The Mediatek G70 is an octa core SoC with two ARM Cortex A75 CPU cores clocked at 2.0Ghz and six ARM Cortex A55 clocked at 1.7Ghz. The GPU on board is the Mali G52 EEMC2. The Samsung A12 uses the Mediatek Helio P35. The P35 is an octa core SoC with two clusters of ARM Cortex A53 CPU cores clocked at 2.3Ghz and 1.8Ghz respectively. The GPU on board is the PowerVR GE8320.
The Hot 10 has the more superior SoC and would completely outstrip the A12 in any processor related activity e.g. apps, gaming etc.

Software and Support
Both phones run on Android 10.

Memory
Both phones use eMMC 5.1 of internal memory. The base version of the A12 comes in 4/64GB or 4/128GB while Infinix Hot 10 ships with 3/64GB or 6/128GB.

Performance
The Hot 10 has a much better performance due to its far superior SoC. In fact, it completely destroys the A12 with a better Antutu benchmark of 194,170 when compared to the 103,000 from the A12.

The A12 has a quad (4) camera set up.
• Main camera: 48MP (wide) (Generic), f/2.0 aperture, 0.8um (pixel size). The sensor size is unknown.
• Ultrawide camera: 5MP (Generic), f/2.2 aperture, both pixels size and sensor sizes are unknown.
• Telephoto Macro: 2MP (generic), f/2.2 aperture, both pixels size and sensor sizes are unknown.

In the photo department, one can understand Infinix going with generic or unbranded sensors to save costs, but Samsung doing the same seems a bit surprisingly. This is because Samsung makes and sells smartphone cameras so it should not cost them much to use their own branded sensors.

This not withstanding though, the cameras on the A12 are superior to those on the Hot 10. This can be seen with the main and ultrawide camera. The only useful camera on the Hot 10 is the main camera, the rest are just for aesthetics. Both phones have identical selfie cameras but the selfie camera on the A12 has a larger aperture and would produce brighter selfies.
In the video department, all cameras on both phones shoot videos of 1080p resolutions at 30fps.

Display
Both devices use an TFT LCD display. The Hot 10 has the larger 6.78” screen and a tall 21:9 aspect ratio. The display has a resolution of 720p (HD+) and a pixel density of 264ppi. The A12 has a smaller 6.5” screen and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display has a resolution of 720p (HD+) and a pixel density of 264ppi.
Both phones do not have screen protection of any kind.

Battery
The Infinix Hot 10 has the bigger battery (Li-poly 5200mAh) but does not support fast charge. The A12 has the smaller battery of the duo at 5000mAh and supports 15W fast charge.

Sensors
Both phones have rear mounted fingerprint sensors for security. They also both have proximity sensors, ambient light sensors and accelerometers. The Infinix Hot 10 has a compass and gyroscope, both of which the A12 lacks.

Connectivity
The two phones both have dual 4G sim slots and support bands 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 38, 40 and 41. The A12 supports 3 extra bands (7, 20 and 28) which the Hot 10 does not support. They also both support Bluetooth 5.0 and VoLTE. The A12 supports NFC for wireless payments and USB C while the Infinix Hot 10 lacks support for NFC and supports the older Micro USB.

Prices
The A12 sells for ₦67,000 (Slot) for the 4/64GB version and ₦72,000 (Pointek) for the 4/128GB version. The Infinix Hot 10 sells for between ₦62,500 (Pointek) and ₦63,400 (Slot) for the 3/64GB version.

Final say
The Infinix Hot 10 has the better Processor and subsequently the better performance. It has more sensors especially that Gyroscope which is quite important for certain games as well as virtual reality and Google maps. The Samsung has the better camera setup, 15W quick charge for that huge battery and better connectivity. Both phones are equal in most of the other aspects.

The choice between both phones now boils down to personal choice. The prices between both are also quite close so there is not much difference there.
